It's a great park for getting your dog out. Long trails, open spaces, nice territory. Fair warning though, highly recommend finding an off-peak time to reduce the chance of running into problems. If your from Dane County, you probably already know, if you don't, read on.

I'll put it this way, there are Karen's and Kevin's a-plenty with dogs in coats whom are encouraged to be gender-neutral and need safe spaces. Thinking they own the property, if you've got a dog who yips and bounces and tries to invite play, be aware you might get a "glare" they think is actually doing something. I spoke on the phone to a ranger after some Karen tried to stomp off my playful dog about this very topic. He begrudgingly admitted these folks who think it's their private property are the parks biggest complaint. This is an off leash dog park, it seems like foreign knowledge to these folks dogs actually interact and this is the place to do it.

None-the-less if you can get out early or late and avoid the crowds you're sure to have a nice walk and your dogs have a good chance of coming home tired. Just consider your stop carefully if the parking lot looks like a...

We love this Dog Park!! My 3 dogs and my family love Dane County Dog Parks, but especially the Verona ones! We all enjoy the great walks we take at this park and the interesting people and dogs we meet here. Our dogs do lots of hunting, running in the low brush/woods and greeting of people & dogs thrown in there! They enjoy playing with other dogs here, however we usually go to Badger Prairie for playtimes and here for nice, long, scenic walks/runs for the dogs. Dogs do play here, they just generally have running on their minds more. This is our favorite place to walk with our dogs and is a park we even like bringing guests for a beautiful walk with or without a dog (always with for us, but you wouldn't need to have a dog to walk here). Through the many years we have gone to this park, we have had the great pleasure of meeting wonderful, kind and friendly people and canines at this park. We encourage others to go check it out! Just wear your walking or hiking shoes & be prepared to enjoy a nice walk and return home tired, with (a)...

Short answer - a great dog park. In an area with a lot of dog parks, this one is the best. It is huge, with wooded paths, meadows for rolling, prairie grasses and oak savannah. Great views all around. Well maintained by a dedicated team of volunteers. I love it when the senior ladies are out with their Parsnip Predator tools killing the invasive species. The only con is the weekend crowd is sometimes pretty irritating. Dogs that have not been trained and have been cooped up in a little apartment all week can jump up on you or take out your knees if you are not careful. The owners can seem disinterested in watching their dogs or picking up the poop because they are too busy drinking their special coffee and talking on their phones. Am I kind of an old guy with "get off my lawn" tendencies? Maybe, but some of these people can be really special in their self-centeredness in a public place with an animal that requires supervision. Anyway, hats off to the parks team and especially the volunteers, this is...

One of the best dog parks in Dane County. It's a huge area with lots of different terrain--dirt, grassy, mulched, and gravel paths for the humans. There are also cut outs that dogs make on their own so plenty of little off shoots for pups to sniff and explore in addition to space to run. It's hilly in spots and if you're not a fan of your dog getting dirty then avoid some of the more heavily wooded areas because there are some mud pits. Also, since it is a heavily wooded area, be sure to check for ticks afterwards (on everyone!). No water, so bring your own. Since it is so big it does seem that dog conflicts are less, but it is easy to lose sight of your dog here, so good recall is important.
