Very remote fire tower hike that is part of the ADK firetower challenge. 1.8 miles round trip. Great little trail, a little steeper than I was expecting compared to the other 1 mile up and back towers. The main thing I came here to say is that if you are driving in a normal car in winter, this hike is possible, but you have to approach blue mountain road from the north (456). If you approach from the south (St Regis), that part of blue mountain road is much less well maintained and you will probably get stuck. The north part of blue mountain road gets a ton of snowmobile traffic and is very well packed for a car to drive on. The parking lot is small and not too frequently plowed, so there is some risk there. The trail itself has some pretty good views! This trail is frequented by a lot of skiers, so please wear snowshoes for their safety. Mostly deciduous trees, no special features otherwise, short and sweet!

For a boy from the Midwest I fux with this trail heavy. It had rained on and off all morning but that didn’t take my need to check out this fire tower. No reception had me a little turned around so I parked at the first parking I seen. The trail was crazy muddy but nothing a little good good in my lungs that had me enjoying every slip and blip moments. Reached the top of the summit huffin and puffin but it was all well worth it. The view from both the ground level and tower had me stunned. Not one person was around so I had a good time taking this all in solo dolo action. When the lite snow started to fall I decided it was time to head now only to get to my car and then the sun comes back out. Not being from the area I spooked myself to walk down earlier then I would of liked. Check it out if ever in the are as it was a workout that pays off big time when you make it to the top. The parking is limited, but this isn't a tower that gets overwhelmed so on most days it should be fine. The hike itself is a touch more difficult in spots than Cathedral or Stillwater, but not by much. The view is fantastic in most directions. It's very well maintained and the renovations are well worth a thank you to those that took part. I'll be coming back in the future.
