They've done a lot to beautify this area and make it more accessible. The only downside is that the area is posted no swimming as there is no lifeguard ever! I will also say while we were there there were people who were swimming and nobody bothered them or said anything. However, Please be aware that this area definitely has some sand bars going across to help with erosion and those sand bars can often create rip currents. So if you have little ones I would definitely either be right next to them while you're swimming! Even the strongest of swimmers will find it difficult if not impossible to swim out of a rip current and depending upon the winds and the way the lake is going you could end up swimming for the last time ever. It's not something to take lightly! There is minimal parking, for free, along with a restaurant just next to where the park / Beach area is. They have picnic tables and a wheelchair accessible area that allows those who have difficulties walking or need assistance to walk on a bricked off area fairly easily. The Town of Westfield owns property on Lake Erie which includes the Daniel Reed Pier, and a small beach (where no swimming is allowed at present time, state law forbids swimming unless lifeguard is in attendance, no lifeguard at Town beaches). The information center previously in the cottage is now housed at the Barcelona Lighthouse keeper's cottage by agreement with New York State Parks.The Harbor Master’s office sells season passes, daily launch tickets and overnight passes and opens at daybreak from May 31 to September 16. The site includes picnic tables and boat launch facilities. There is a buoy field also owned by the Town, that allows individuals to moor their boat in the harbor area (for an annual fee). The pier is located on Rt. 5 just east of the intersection of Rt. 394 & Rt. 5.
