The Flambeau River State Forest is a shining gem in Northern Wisconsin. Beautiful, well managed forests with the magnificent Flambeau River flowing through the middle of it (Think canoe trips). Little Falls and Slough Gundy are must sees. The falls is gorgeous. You can sit there for what seems like an eternity and let the roar of the falls take your troubles away. To top it off, now an elk herd has been reintroduced into this area through the incredible work of DNR State biologists and elk experts of all stripes.    Read moreWe had a good weekend. Dog friendly. Clean Bathrooms. Close drive to a full beach and park for younger kids. Boat launch is easy access. A random kitten hopped a ride on someone's truck and escaped at the boat landing into the woods. My girls chased it down, so now we have a kitten named Frankie.
