Yes, they do have a pretty small parking lot, but you should get there early to avoid the heat. If you get there early, between 7-7:30am, you will be able to take in the aroma of the surrounding trees and flowers. The smell is there regardless, but the aroma of the outdoors is a lot stronger the earlier you go. After 10:30am you can start to feel the heat, no bueno. Parking is $3 for the whole day.
I picked up a park map by the park ranger's office, but the map was close to useless. The only thing I did like was how it showed the different hiking trails based off difficulty, but it was difficult to differentiate the trails on the map. If needed, I just looked at Google Maps for guidance.
The park itself is gorgeous. The level of trails is great for people who are beginners to experts. Trails are long enough for a great run.

Read moreGreat hike with lots of paths for you to customize what you are looking for. There is parking at either end (the north side requires payment; the south side requires patience and luck as it is street parking and there isn't too much) which allows you to make the hike a loop or an out and back. One part of the loop is rolling hills that will give you that hike workout and the other side is a flat wide dirt path that will let you get a nice leisurely outdoor walk. There's paths connecting the hills to the flat part in case you want to cut your hike short and turn back around. They allow dogs which is always a plus in my book! The view from the highest point is nice and always gives you that sense of accomplishment. Careful with the steep hill at the beginning of the north side especially if it has rained, going down can seem a little scary especially if you don't have good traction...
Read moreThis trailhead is by the south entrance to the Peter’s Canyon Regional Park. There are many trails suitable for various level of hikers, runners, and mountain bikers. For a conditioning workout, do laps up and down Big Red; for an easy serene nature walk, stroll along to take in the view of the lake and hilltop. Although this is a dog friendly park, there are some wild coyotes lurking about, so watch out for your furry friends. Trails are well maintained and great for families and beginners.
The south entrance has free street parking along the street just a little past Peter’s Canyon Elementary School. Parking here is much more convenient than the the paid lot at the north entrance. Bring lights if you’re...
