My recent visit to the Evel Knievel Jump Site was more about appreciating the sheer audacity of the stunt attempted here. The knowledge of what happened here is quite impressive. The site serves as a testimony to the human spirit's audacity, an audacious attempt made by the legendary daredevil Evel Knievel. The idea that someone would try to jump this massive chasm on a motorcycle is both mind-boggling and awe-inspiring. While it may not offer much for the average tourist in terms of attractions or features, for fans of Knievel or extreme sports enthusiasts, this site holds a certain significance. It stands as a reminder of the lengths some individuals will go to push the boundaries of possibilities and the physical limits of the human body. The Evel Knievel Jump Site is not your typical tourist spot. It's more of a pilgrimage point for those who appreciate the daredevil's legacy and his infamous attempted jump. It might not be everyone's cup of tea, but it's definitely worth a stop for those intrigued by such feats.

UDPATE: You can park your car literally feet away from the ramp. People seem confused about how to get here. It's easy. The site is cool. Maybe you have to be of a certain age to feel it. I remember watching the jump on TV, breath held...and then both disappointed and concerned. So actually being on the ramp was super cool for me. My 17-year-old son who had never been part of the Evel Knievel experience just thought the ramp was a good viewpoint over the canyon--and an interesting story. "No way he'd have made that other rim from here, even with a rocket bike!" Led to interesting conversation while on the hill. As for getting there, we followed the printed postcard map from the tourist information center by the bridge. It said to take 3200 E which led us to a small parking lot right at the bottom of the ramp. So I guess there are multiple ways to get there, but that road right to the ramp was pretty easy. And there were about 3-4 cars there during our visit today.

I watched this event live on TV back in 1974. So it was great to be able to visit the actual launch site of the Snake River Canyon Jump attempt. It was a beautiful June day in 2023. There is just the dirt ramp and concrete footings that held the launch tower back in 1974. There is also a small informational marker telling folks what the site was and what went on there. We were able to drive the dirt road right up the the launch site. You can also access the site by walking or biking the Canyon Rim Trail. I took some pictures and enjoyed the time remembering that event way back when. The views from the trail are good. But the views from the top of the launch pad are really great. I'm glad that I walked up to take some pictures. I uploaded pictures from the site, as well as included pictures of the monuments just down the trail at the Twin Falls Visitors Center, near the steps to the Perrine Bridge. To me, it was definitely worth the time to visit.

Visited here for the first time. I was a kid when Evel Knievel attempted this jump, but was living on the East Coast, and had no idea what Idaho was like. Fast forward 50 years, and I’m even more amazed at the bravery it took for this man to attempt what he did. There is not much left to see, other than the concrete footings and dirt ramp, but with a little imagination, you can still see the magic and hear the crowds. You can drive all the way up to the ramp and then explore around the area and there is a walking trail that goes all the way to Shoshone Falls. Make sure you look for the bench along the way, and take a seat because you have an obstructed view of the falls in the distance and if they are running, you can hear them. It’s a beautiful place and well worth the effort to get there.

Cool place to visit. It helps to look up a video of the Snake River jump so you can picture it all as you walk around the site. There isn't much to see but your imagination can easily fill in the blanks to see it as it was in 1974. Walk up to the top of the ramp for a better view of the canyon. My only complaint is that the gate across the road was closed at 6pm even though the sign says it's open until 10pm so we had to park and walk about a half mile. It was nearly dark by the time we got to the site but we were still able to see. We enjoyed talking with other travelers on the walk though.

We didn't have high expectations for this stop on our "Wild West road trip" but was pleasantly surprised. Very low key site. The ramp used to jump the river is still there, accessible and I recommend people to carefully climb to the top for the view. There's a paved bike trail at the front base of the ramp, so if you have the time and bring your bike (which I want to do next time), you can get some activity and fresh air. Just be aware of heat in the summer. Wear sun screen and bring water.
