This is a beautiful, natural sight. That said, you need a vehicle capable of offroading to follow google directions to a cliff overlook. We did not, so we parked and walked. There are thousands of katidids flying helter shelter as you walk through the dry grasses, as well as shotgun shells everywhere. The drop at Pillar Falls isn’t more than a few feet, but here the river is divided by a curious sequence of giant rhyolite boulders. To see Pillar Falls up close there’s a 1.1-mile access trail winding down the south wall of the canyon.

I’m surprised they even are called falls, since they’re about a foot high, but kayaking/hiking to the spot lets you explore around the cool rock pillars and formations and enjoy the cool water.
