How to Kayak to Shoshone Falls Options for every adventure level listed easiest to hardest. 1.Take scenic boat tour (or kayak/SUP) to Pillar Falls. Explore around the falls. You can rent kayaks or SUPs right at Centennial park if you don’t have your own. Return to Centennial Park and drive to the Shoshone Falls overlook ($5). Enjoy the bird’s eye view of the falls. 2.Hire a guide though @awoladventures - take a boat ride to Pillar Falls. Hike and explore around the pillars and falls. Kayak 2 miles one way to Shoshone Falls. Return the way you came. 3. This is the option we did. Park at Centennial Waterfront park in Twin Falls, ID rent at the park or bring your own Kayaks/SUPs Kayak under Perrine Memorial bridge. Watch our for BASE jumpers! Paddle to Pillar Falls. Portage (carry) your Kayaks 200 yards across the right (south side) following the rocky path. We used our pack rafts (inflatable kayaks) which make the portage super easy. Kayak the last two miles to Shoshone falls enjoying smaller falls and wildlife along the way. Bask in the spray under the “Niagra of the West”. Shoshone falls are over 200 Feet tall! Don’t get too close to the falls! The force can drag you under. Return the way you came taking time to hike and explore around Pillar falls. Plan on about 6 hours for this 8 mile paddle and hike. Which option would you prefer? Remember to leave no trace when adventuring outdoors. This is a beautiful, natural sight. That said, you need a vehicle capable of offroading to follow google directions to a cliff overlook. We did not, so we parked and walked. There are thousands of katidids flying helter shelter as you walk through the dry grasses, as well as shotgun shells everywhere. The only way you see many of the views shown in photographs is to enter the river to the west and travel the river. From above, you are far away. It is still a beautiful view though. Just know maps is trying to have you drive through the rocky grasses.

Going east, before you come to Shoshone Falls you’ll reach Pillar Falls, smaller but still spectacular in its own way. The drop at Pillar Falls isn’t more than a few feet, but here the river is divided by a curious sequence of giant rhyolite boulders. To see Pillar Falls up close there’s a 1.1-mile access trail winding down the south wall of the canyon. This is a tricky hike, but the views merit the effort. Alternatively you can kayak from the Centennial Waterfront Park, which is a memorable way to approach those sentinel-like rocky pillars.

5 stars, because this is an awesome little spot to check out. But FYI, don’t have too high of expectations, because compared to some nearby falls it is underwhelming. I’m surprised they even are called falls, since they’re about a foot high, but kayaking/hiking to the spot lets you explore around the cool rock pillars and formations and enjoy the cool water. It’s a great spot to hang out with family...
