It's always a beautiful scenic view going to and from the Island. When the water is calm and the winds are low, the crossing can be made quickly and smoothly. When the winds are high and the water gets choppy is when you're in for a fun ride, so you'd better hold on to your hat and be prepared for that inevitable and inordinate pitch and yaw of the boat as it cruises through the waves which will come crashing over bow and stern and onto the deck and the vehicles and sometimes yourself, if you choose to stand outside. If you suffer from motion sickness, good luck, and God-speed to you.
The prices for the ferry ride have gradually increased over the years. We paid about 60 bucks for 2 adults in an SUV, which is noticeably more than we paid the previous year, which I suppose is to be expected given the current circumstance of our economy. The ferry crew can be hit or miss. Some have generally good attitudes and demeanors towards their customers and their jobs, and some are downright crotchety and rude to the point of malicious willful ignorance. So, bear that in mind when dealing with some of these lads and bring a thick skin in case you are on the receiving end of their brooding ill moods.
We've been making this crossing to and from for well over 2 decades and hope to continue making it for 2 more decades to come. Thanks for getting us there and back again...
