This is a place that my wife and I have eaten at many times. We heard there is new management and some folks were not too happy with it, but we decided to go for it any way and made a reservation for my son's birthday at this place for 15 people. They booked us and all seemed well. A few days later they called and said that they screwed up our reservation and instead of our party being split into 2 tables, we will now be sat at a table of 5, 4 and 3 tables of 2. We were worried about the layout, so went to the restaurant to see how it looks. We spoke to their manager named Brian. Who showed us the layout and we all agreed that this would work. The very next day, this same manager calls us and says that our reservation is cancelled because it is too many people and TOO STRESSFUL for them. So now we are a week away and we have no venue. I've never had a restaurant cancel a reservation last minute because it is too stressful for them. This is especially perplexing since the space was available and called for. Separate tables means separate checks and could even be different servers, so where is the stress? Do they prefer an empty restaurant on a Saturday night so they can be stress free? I'm never going to this...
Read moreVisited with my sister and our kids (two 7 year olds and an 11 year old) early in the summer. It would have cost us $35 to climb the steps of the tower, and we didn’t think two of the kids would be up for it, so we skipped it. Even if the elevator worked, $35 is a lot to spend for a 5 or 10 minute excursion. We decided to hike the area, which I would not recommend doing with small children. The staff in the tower directed us to the only hiking trail, which was a straight shot down a VERY steep hill (we practically slid down). At the bottom of the hill, you just walk alongside a huge fence with locked gates and “no entry” signs until you reach the road back up and have to climb up the VERY steep hill back to the parking lot. There is a nice little memorial off to the side of the parking lot, and there’s some decrepit and crumbling old stone pit toilets if you’re into that sort of history.
All in all, it was not a great trip. We enjoyed the trip down the steep hill, but not anything else about the hike. If you want to see a nice view and hike a cool area, I would recommend parking at Ralph Stover State Park and hiking to the High Rocks vista. Or just park at the High Rocks vista if you aren’t...
Read moreIt was a magical day. Being up top of the hill the Tower is on allowed us a whole different experience. Hopped a squat in the wooded area with a blanket, some tunes & shared our outlook on life, love, humans & what our purpose should be. Just became one with the land, watching a dozen red tailed hawks play above us in the sky. With the overcast haze it looked like a painting came to life...it was majestic! Most beautiful day I’ve ever experienced. Clean bathroom/portapotties allowed us to spend the day there without having to deal with the hustle & bustle of crowded Main Street. There are also benches and bbq grills to cook on so u just need to bring charcoal & some grub to have a perfect picnic. We actually over stayed our welcome & had to be escorted by park police to unlock the gates & let us out! The officer was very nice & had a great demeanor to him. That was much appreciated considering we were just enjoying the land, that is for all of us. So just a heads up this particular area closes at 4:30pm (at least during the week). It’s not a typical from dawn till dusk area. The rest of the park is just not Bowman’s Tower. Check the local...
