After attending several little parks in the area, I started Googling other options. Ironically I feel like local playgrounds are one of the harder things to search for on the internet because they are usually affiliated with townships and best known by people who live very close to them.
Anyway after some searching I was excited to find Heuser Park, a beautiful large park with 2 playground areas. One area has playground equipment for bigger kids and the other area for smaller children. I don't remember what the age recommendations are for each area but there is plenty to play on.
There are picnic tables a small pavilion and indoor bathroom that is open during the summer months. I found the bathrooms to be pleasantly clean for a park and in decent shape. During the other months there is a Porto potty located close to one of the sports fields. Both are reasonably located from the play area should you or your child need to use the bathroom.
If you are in the mood to walk or ride bicycles there is also a very nice paved trail located opposite the play area on close to the parking lot. I'm not sure if this trail connects to the Schuylkill River trail but it does seem fairly long as is very nice to walk on with lots of shade.
Lastly, the park is kept clean and all of the equipment is in good condition and...
Read moreAttended the River Roads Music Festival at Heuser Park (hosted by Rising Sun Presents) and had a fantastic experience. The park is a large, well-maintained outdoor space with plenty to offer... such as walking trails, a kids’ playground, sports fields, and wide-open grassy areas perfect for events like this one.
The concert setup was great: excellent sound quality, tons of food trucks and vendors, and plenty of space to spread out. Severely thankful for the free water refill booths and for the Frios popsicle vendor, as it was immensely hot that day. I really appreciated that you could bring your own chair—it made it easy to relax and enjoy the show. The stage was perfectly positioned in front of the setting sun, which made for a beautiful backdrop as the evening went on.
There was even an unexpected fireworks display nearby, which added to the festive atmosphere. There was free parking, conveniently located close to the venue. Leaving was impressively smooth, with some roads temporarily closed off to help manage foot and vehicle traffic safely. Would return for another...
Read moreRegarding July 3rd Concert Under the Stars, I have some observations. Wonderful staff. Everyone I engaged was pleasant and helpful. However, there were logistical issues associated with restrooms, beverage vendors and access that made the experience less than enjoyable for patrons. Far too few port-o-potty’s. Lines were twenty-plus deep most of evening. There were just two assigned to the VIP area, to which we had access. Lines just as long. The beer lines were longer. Plus, the offerings were simply awful. I tried several different beverage offerings and found them all bad. Departing was chaos as local police had closed several roads which denied access to anyone trying to get anywhere near the venue. This also precluded Uber/Lyft drivers. We had to hump our gear 1/2 mile uphill to get out of the police perimeter. That was the most annoying. Gotta think these things through, folks. Set up an area dedicated for ride-sharing or allow these...
