I enrolled in courses for the ChFC designation course on 11/19/2022. I paid in full up front for all 8 courses. On 1/11/2024 I completed all courses and submitted my application for my designation, which was awarded on 2/1/2024 (I met the experience hours requirement).
The courses were awesome. I loved that I could do everything online (even our textbook was virtual) and on my own pace. An instructor led live classes, but if I couldn't join, the class was recorded and all instructors were available to reach via email. The American College gives a variety of resources and coursework that really help you understand the material. Textbook, videos, discussion forums, live classes, summary pdfs, and quizzes all helped me prepare for the in person exams.
I had zero hiccups with the process and navigating the website was really easy. At one point I paused classes to take the CFP exam, and the staff was very helpful when I called in.
I highly recommend The American College of Financial Services, and will be taking CE classes with them in the future. The annual dues to use your designation is completely reasonable and standard for designations...
Read moreI'm currently enrolled in a CFP program after leaving an MBA/CFP hybrid program from another institution that was not realistic for working professionals as it was geared toward the traditional student. This past year at The American College has been a delight.
Emailing advising team is helpful for any questions you may have as they are prompt. Professors are very experienced and very knowledgeable. The online program offers flexibility for working professionals like me and the system has had updates over my 1 year here with an aim to improve every time.
In addition to the above, the college is focused on being innovative in its offerings of courses and conferences which highlights their heart for the financial services industry to be equipped with what it needs to serve the public.
Negative experiences may have been had but the college takes them and learns from them from what I see and experience. I'm looking forward to calling myself an alumni of the college and continuing my lifelong...
Read moreI have just completed my designation program a few months ago. Most of the courses were helpful and educational. I had hoped that the actual Financial planning course would be very in depth and hands on, unfortunately it was not. Working in a group of 6-7 people building one plan leaves each individual completing a small portion of the overall plan. I felt this really took away from each of us learning how to build a complete plan on our own. Either way over all it was a good program. The customer service has definitely fallen off over the years however and this is a bit frustrating I completed my program 3 months ago and have yet to receive MY diploma/certificate of completion even after reaching out in multiple occasions. Of course I have to call and leave a message and wait 3-4 days for a return call if I receive one at all. It’s a shame to see the college fall off so...
