My HGAC review Hi, my name is Taevian Tyson on September 6, 2022 I had a chance to go back to Hiram G Andrew center. And when I got there, I had to make new friends to be honest. The school has his ups and downs, but it was very, very good to me. I took one full course of building maintenance and I liked it on December 15. I graduated from building maintenance with my OSHA certification and I can’t forget the staff were amazing to me I would joke around with the Dean and Norm, and they enjoy seeing my company and seeing my face. So it was my honor and pleasure to be at the Hiram G Andrew Center. If I could give one piece of advice to any of the students is stay away from the drama. And focus on yourself.

My name is Zack. I've been here for a year and when my third term of networking came around. January 2nd, 2024, is when things went south. I have a feeling on that day someone snitched on me for little to no reason about some YouTube incident. Well, yes, sometimes i feel like i take some blame, most of the time it really isn't. the head security guard along with some other faculty there, bringing higher pressure and more stress just on my vlogging channel specifically. Honestly though, this student in particular changed a lot in terms of when he wanted to be recorded. so what did he do? i spent the last 2-3 hours total editing his face out, and he thought it wasn't enough. and get this, if you think that is nonsense, peep this one! the head security guard thought i was "breaching" their security system. like wake up man, if you was scared that someone uploaded a video, WITH their permission, and yes, i've asked or they've been close to me to a point that they really don't mind. after i uploaded it, you expected me to get doxxed and have this location leaked on. One example is someone's room, just walking down the hallway to someone else's room, vlogging in the rec hall, etc. i've done research, though it is a private school, i'll admit that. furthermore with the fact on the website. when i'm there, that's not the case. i see people starting drama when there ISN'T ALLOWED! I have been under the drama woes since early January, which honestly, i would give this a 4 star review, because the food was lacking some quality taste, because what did you expect from free meals? i really wanted to give this one star because i have saw the unexpected. for one the head security wouldn't let me talk because his tone was maddening, with every one else in the room i honestly wouldn't survive, but apparently i did. there are other students in evaluation last year that did did the same thing, but did they get in trouble? of course not! because i didn't see it happen. which i would be honest, the head security officer gave me little reason to speak my opinion, which i haven't thought about it yet. and one thing before i wrap this up. cyberbullying? i mean, taking accountable for this? a student literally kept semen jars, annoying people, stalking girls, and was just flat-out annoying. that was why my one friend told me to make a video about that. which, honestly, my friends said he kinda deserved it, but we have opinions here. no one here should be absolute busybodies to just kick us out. all i wanted to do is get my degree and get out, i didn't come here just to plumet my self-esteem and motivation. which drama is the main factor here on this place

and that right there is why you SHOULD NOT come here. i rest my case, because this is in my head for the...

I remember I think I went here back in March 2014? People would play their PS4 in the library area. Had to be since PS4 came out November of 2013. Anyway, it was an okay place.

But people don’t realize the food is made by students. Cooking is one of the courses at this center. It’s made from scratch so it taste bland because it lacks sugar and salt which is a good thing.

Not sure if the teachers are still the same. But the doctor there in 2014 was really good and cared. I’m sure he retired by now.

But yes this place can be crazy. It’s the center for people who have diagnosed disabilities. I wouldn’t recommend it for someone with depression. This experience is like getting your feet wet about being an adult. You’re pretty much falling into the deep end out of your comfort zone.

Of course there are some students fabricating ideas in their head. That is their disability and their way of comforting themselves.

The best things to do here are take as many activities as possible or you’ll hallucinate. Some would use PS4. I had nothing but a blackberry and pocket full of change.

Those two weeks felt like three months. The only thing that was great was the movie time we saw Rango and Warm bodies. In the wreck hall down stairs. We also had bingo, pool (billiards), and an art activity where I made a tiny ceramic cat.

Met couple people there, was cool. But for an adult I would say it’s pretty much like a retirement home very boring. There was a bus that would take you to Walmart and other shopping places in town.

There’s a gift shop, but that too is a course at the school. Next to the library auxiliary area. Auxiliary is where people would play their PS4s.

Anyway that was my two week experience.

The dorms are a mixture the back right two stacks have bathrooms in the rooms with a shower. The other dorm stacks only have sinks in the room and two or three shower bathroom areas accessible from the hall. I wanted to point that out, if you’re shy washing is going to be an issue. You’ll have to walk in a robe with flops to the bathroom and such.

Also they have a course where the students steam mop the showers. So a room with a bathroom will have students walking in to clean around 11am to 1pm. The dorms all have lobby areas near the main connecting hallway with a microwave and television. I watched tv in the dorm Lobby between 6pm ~ 8pm. I think it was...

As a former student there I do agree that it has pros and cons so I’m going to state the pros and cons that I experienced while attending there.

Pros: awesome rec hall trips, beautiful views outside of the school especially in the summer, clubs (I was in the running club, fitness club, and dance club), fun gym activities after school, making friends, learning how to use public transportation, free school passes for the ymca and bus, hanging out in the rec hall and other student spaces, the ghost town trail marathon (apart of running club), the simple little things matter like getting microwaveable chicken pot pie (ik that sounds weird but if you’re a student then you understand), the town is pretty historically interesting (Johnstown pa) and last but most certainly important learning to be independent.

Cons: dramas gonna happen a lot especially with culinary arts and the fact that you all live together mostly 24/7, you can hear people through the walls, your not there the same amount of time as a regular college, your out in the middle of nowhere so not a lot happens in the town but last I was there there was a high crime rate so if you go into town i highly suggest going in a big group cause the more the merrier, the food is just standard school food (besides the desserts) unless you’re going to the school cafe which is one of the labs the culinary arts students work in during weekdays, I don’t really blame anyone for this btw because in the long run it does help to learn how to deal with the situation but from my experience in my culinary classes there was a lot of stress especially with the hands on exam at the end of your two terms that determine if you can stay there to go for a associates degree or have to graduate with a culinary assistant diploma.

With all of that being said ultimately I am glad that I was able to have the opportunity to make memories there and experience...
