A once beautiful and quiet place has now been ruined by the increased populace and traffic through this area. The people that maintain this area have torn down trees and bushes that now make the path visable from the road. As well as insultingly put up a DNR paid visiting area board requesting $7 to walk around this area that is a shell of what it use to be. The dozens of birds that sung in the trees, the deer that use to take naps in the middle of the grove, the squirrels that hanged out in the trees, all gone in this area due to the traffic and constant visitors through the area. They set some bunnies up underneath the old house to keep the illusion alive.
I use to come up here during high school and could walk around and meditate with little to no others around. I even proposed to my wife under the big pine by the bridge. Now there is always someone here, taking pictures, people walking around, kids running, yelling and screaming. No privacy. No solidarity that this place use to offer. You could lay a blanket down and read a book and maybe, just maybe, one person would come by on their way to the trails in a hour time.
Sad, depressing and and another pathetic example of greed and human consumption destroying another beautiful wildlife area. Just another tourist stop now.

Wasn't surprised to see more houses for sell than I have ever seen in my 18 years here. Wouldn't want to live up there with how things are going either. Too many people forcing their way in and the state...

They had a couple people on site that were well versed in the history of the homestead and the valley in general. It was really interesting. It makes you appreciate modern amenities that much more when you see some of the things they had to work with, but at the same time it is sad to see how commercialized such beautiful...

Right by the stream there's a picnic table (shady at lunchtime) and it's cool, quiet & serene. Nearby are historical buildings like a creamer (with signs & window peeping).
We walked a small 5-10 minute trail because I was in-pain that day. A perfect hike for moms with toddlers or little kids! Great...
