It's a very nice place to get away for a while and spend some time with family and friends. Most of the sites are surrounded by trees that provide shade. Each site was clean and well taken care of. Parking is $10 and the use of each site is $10. So, if you park in the lot and use a site it's $20 total. If you park on the road, parking is free. Bathrooms are available and there are a few climbing and bouldering routes on the west side of Ledgemere.
If you're able to make a reservation on recreation.gov, then the picnic site will be reserved for you. I was unsure if the spot was actually going to be reserved since this is a first come first serve picnic area, but when I showed up, there was a reservation sign for us, so that was great! I'm assuming that there are instances or times of year that sites can be reserved before they open up for first come first serve, but I'd recommend checking the recreation.gov...
Read moreBeautiful picnic spot that's not too far into the canyon, and right off of the road. That being said...its not too far off of the road. You can see and hear cars passing from all picnic spots. It was very busy when we went and got lucky to find a parking spot. Many had to park along the road which would've been scary with kids. Nice bathrooms with flushing toilets! Could use more garbage cans around. Seems to attract the younger crowd of hipsters for bon fires and rock climbing. The river was beautiful though and we could sit right on the rocks near the river and have our picnic. I think $10 is expensive though, and that's why it gets 3 stars from me. **If you liked this review or thought it was helpful, give it a thumbs...
Read moreLove the picnic area, went to spend the day with the family. There are areas you can hike through and even do some rock climbing, the husband actually hiked up to the peak above the picnic area. The bathrooms were in ok condition, did not smell bad (since I’ve been to a lot of campsites and some smell awful), they had toilet paper. The area has no water, there is a stream that runs down but no water at the picnic areas so bring your own water. There is a dumpster where you can throw you garbage at when you are done. Each picnic area has a fire pit. Definitely an area we will likely visit again since we love the outdoors. Also getting cell coverage is a plus for me and this area is not too deep in the canyon so you do...
