McIntosh Woods State Park — Attraction in Ventura

Wonderful little state park. A little more private (lake-wise) vs at clear lake state park. The campground was great! Plenty of shaded areas. Just wish some of your fellow campers could've been a little more respectful late at night, with being so loud. Other than that, really enjoyed the beach = again, more private and walking out into the lake wasn't covered with ROCKS (which my feet really appreciated). There's a nice boat loading dock. Plenty of parking. Didn't get to explore - but seen there were a handful of trails attached to the park (next time). Looking forward to camping here again in the future! The park ranger Tammi (Tammi with an "i") was super nice and gave us some informative literature of the area! For firewood - we will pass along the info she gave to us = visit the farmers market in Ventura on Saturday mornings, where you can get a big bundle of nice oak wood...

Facilities were clean and we had a fun time for the most part. The campground host was extremely rude though. We had a spot near his and while I was attempting to break a stick for firewood by hitting it against a tree 3 or 4 times, the host came over very angrily and told me to stop "hitting on" the trees. He alleged that I had done this before, pointing to a gash in the bark that was clearly there long before we'd arrived, and blaming me directly that the tree would "be dead in one year because of this". I respectfully apologized and didn't contest his allegations, but instead of leaving, he threatened me with jail time and a $500 fine if he saw me do it again, for "destructive acts". Very small site, barely enough room for my truck, no fire too close to truck. Next to a road, cars and motorcycles raced up and down it. Showers seldom had even warm water. The sites have 30 amp electric, that's it. There are communal water faucets, don't forget to fill up before parking. There is a convenient dump station outside the campground. The park has several hiking trails as well as boat launches on Clear Lake. A few miles to the Buddy...
