Muskie Lounge — Restaurant in Ventura

I was in the mood for fish and chips so I thought the Muskie Lounge would be perfect. We arrived early as I was told it is normally very busy with its limited hours. We were seated easily and staff was nice. I ordered the Fried Walleye and French fries as the potato side with Onion rings as an appetizer. The onion rings arrived and I was pretty disappointed. They tasted like fried food you might find in a college cafeteria, so pretty mediocre. The rest of the meal arrived soon after. The salad was a simple iceberg lettuce side salad that was fine. The dinner rolls were just some premade Hawaiian rolls. The French fries were the most disappointing They were some plain frozen crinkle cut fries from the same college cafeteria supplier. The best part of the meal was the fish but even that wasn't noteworthy. I was not a fan of the batter as it was also fairly bland.

I would have been more ok with the flaws but the prices were pretty high for the quality of the food. $19 for my main dish and $7.50 I think for the onion rings. There isn't much competition in this space (surprisingly) in Clear Lake area so I guess they can get away with it. Definitely come early as you'll have to wait to be seated but trust me, it's well worth the wait!! You can order drinks and or appetizers while you wait to be seated while looking across the lake (beautiful view). The staff there are very friendly and the food is amazing!! Their Friday fish special was fantastic and everyone else who ordered it was pleased as well. Their lemonade seemed fresh, compared to other places that seemed like it came from a Coke machine with a thousand flavors in it. I'll preface this by saying I may have just had a bad experience, but I wasn't too impressed with this joint. The rest of my family got the fish special, but I decided to get a burger because, well, I felt like a burger. My family had no complaints about the fish, but my burger had decent meat at best and the thousand island sause was just gross. The atmosphere isn't my thing but it's ok.
