I have to admit that I had high hopes for this little hike. It was easy. The problem is that we didn’t see too many fossils and the hike wasn’t particularly one for sightseeing. Most of the fossils that we saw were just fragments as well.
I’d recommend spending more time at the quarry, enjoying the more extensive fossils, rather than doing this trail. There are a few petroglyphs at one point along the trail. However, there weren’t many and there was vandalism that made them less enjoyable.
We hiked it in late February, so the sun wasn’t bad. There isn’t much (if any) shade along this trail. There was a bit of a chilly breeze for our hike.
You can take the trail from the visitor center or the quarry. We made it a loop by hiking back to our car along the road from the visitor center back...
