We had such a great time at this location! For sure if you have not been here I would recommend you giving it a try! It has so much to offer! We can't wait to go back again! No.1 it for sure is an affordable kid friendly location! It also has trails you can walk/run that are full of beautiful sites and history! Pet friendly! Clean restrooms! Some snacks/drinks available as well souvenirs/post cards! We began our adventure here in meeting Christie at the front office, she was wonderful! Very friendly, knowledgeable, excellent customer service and she ended up being the associate who taught us how to pan for gold! What an amazing experience, she was so patient, friendly and assured we accomplished our goal of finding gold! I can tell for sure she loves what she does and she for sure made our experience one to remember! We also while there took the opportunity to ride the train with Frost! Frost was wonderful, friendly, careful, informative and the list goes on in just the same! We enjoyed the ride, it lasted around 10 minutes and we were able to lay back and enjoy the sites! It only cost $5 and worth every penny! The museum, we plan to check out on a future visit as we only had a little time to visit as it was just a spare of the moment get away for us to catch a break from the studio work and so worth it! We as well plan to hike there in the future, plan to feed the animals again as we did on this trip (they sell food in the office for you to feed the animals they have on the grounds and we had such enjoyment doing this!) We are also looking forward to future events they hold on the grounds that they have on their website as well facebook page that we plan to check out! In all at this location, for $23 for 2 adults we met wonderful people, enjoyed a train ride, panning for gold (which we got to take home with us in a cute little jar) and fed the animals! If you are a parent with children, this for sure is a place I recommend you taking them this also a place I recommend for schools to do as a field trip! This experience took me back to when I was a kid, outside, animals, train rides, snacks, drinks, panning for gold (as I did in the mountains on family vacations) and so looking forward to checking out the museum, hiking and seeing events held there in the near future! This for sure is one place I will always remember, just one of those places you use your phone for filming and pictures of your family/friends as you enjoy what the world was like before technology took over! Thank you...
Read moreWell, this is going to be a complex review due to some circumstances. Let's go! We ordered tickets for the ghost train, but unfortunately we got our dates mixed up. Totally our fault, didn't expect a refund. Never even argued. However, prior to finding that out, the employee working the "carriage" where we were to collect the paper tickets, was about as friendly as the "zombies" we were prepared to see. She clearly DGAF, and that's cool...We were happy to donate to a "small business".
Even after dealing with the witch (wanna keep it Rated-G...) of the year award winner that had the empathy/personality of a rock (NOT GOLD), we ordered more tickets for the following Thursday. We arrived 30 min. early as instructed. As we were walking in, we were greeted by a lady that hatefully redirected us to the "carriage" lady. She gave us our tickets, and we proceeded to the "entrance" and eventual board of the ghost train. Here's my review: Initial walk to the train is about as intense as it's going to get. Cast "pop out" and "follow" with chainsaw with strobe light tunnel to the train is engaging, but the actual train ride is a bore. So much wasted space for opportunities to scare. "Set ups" aren't scary, even to a six year old girl and other younger passengers. There is potential, and much could be improved at a low costs and a little creativity. Until then, the price of a ticket isn't worth...
Read moreWe've visited more for the walking trails and train ride for kids than the museum. The trails are clean and there are some hilly slopes so wear good shoes. On weekdays, the trails are rarely busy so you can usually enjoy a walk in solitude. There are historical markers with descriptions as well.
If you have a creative eye, you can find some great photo shoot opps along the brick remains of buildings past and old stone steps.
There are also some farm animals including a very large old bull, a horse, donkey, maybe a goat or two, etc. The animals are behind a fence but we were able to pet the horse. You can buy some feed at the museum.
There is also a pond with ducks, fish, and turtles to feed. Again, buy the feed indoors at the museum. It's cheap. There is a small gift shop in the museum, too.
The kids' train ride is fun and affordable during the summer. On weekends, they stage an old time train robbery, which was fun. Just be sure to prepare the little ones so they know it isn't real. Adults ride, too, and fit two to a seat.
Parking is free and convenient. The bathrooms are indoors at the museum and have always been clean when I've been there. It's a small-town venue so prepare your expectations...
