Gator Pool — Attraction in Virginia Beach

If you're DoD and staying in VA Beach with the family, I highly recommend stopping by to let the kids blow off some steam. This is more of a mini water park than a pool. There are three legit big kid slides, and four other little kid slides. There's also a gator bridge with an overhead net. There are lots of tables in the shade, either umbrellas or an overhead cover. There's a snack bar with some healthy options. There's also a fenced off splash pad for toddlers. There isn't really anywhere to swim that's more than 4 feet deep. There is a deep pool, but it serves as the splash down for the tube slide. There are plenty of lifeguards. They would do better to spend less time socializing/flirting with each other and more time watching the water, but the kid to mom ratio was about 2:1, so there was adequate supervision. One girl was actually turned 90 degrees in her chair, to face her friend rather than the pool. As a former lifeguard I found that appalling, but again, every little kid was pretty much under direct supervision of his or her parents anyway. They don't allow pool toys or water wings, but do have nice life vests for kids to use for free. They don't allow outside food or drinks, but the place is run by teenagers who don't care to shake down customers, so we had no problem bringing in snacks and drinks. Love that this pool has water slides for both big kids and the little!! I don’t like that no matter what is going on they charge the same entrance fee. We went a couple of weeks ago and due to all the rain we have been getting the pool water levels were low and so no slides were open. The employees were very upfront about this saying they hoped to open at least 1 slide in the next hour. Well it was 2 1/2 hours later that they opened 1 slide. Which was the only big kid slide that opened that day. And even though all the slides weren’t working it was the sake $10 per person entrance fee which is very high when nothing is working. Pool is great, kids had a great time. Adult swim is stupid when you’re paying to take the kids to a water park pool. I shouldn’t have to pay 9 dollars a person to make my kids sit out in the heat. Also is ridiculous to kick paying customers out of pool before closing time and then refuse them use of changing rooms all because the “hard working” staff want to leave at 4:00 on the dot. Absolutely ridiculous. Had to change my kids in the parking lot, little girls weren’t very happy to not have privacy. Staff didn’t seem helpful or willing at all, just wanted us out of there.
