This park’s alright, but a typical Loudoun park, largely unkempt, minimal facilities or maps of the little park, and is threatened by further development from the so-called board of supervisors. Its flora are mostly invasive with some natives, which is perhaps better than data centres or ubiquitous housing projects here, but natives like oaks certainly host more species than the invasives. It does protect some floodplain, wetland, and pond habitats and is apparently home to some coyotes, endangered species of plants and and other neat animals. Worth a visit, but nearby Claude Moore Park is much better. Some football pitches, but they’re tarpped and closed for winter like other Loudoun parks. I’m sorry these are funded by your tax dollars, but you’re still not allowed to use them. Nevertheless, please, please show your support for the park to protect whatever little green space...
Read moreMy family loves hiking short but scenic trails close to home and this park is no exception. Other than a lot of soccer fields, they also have a small kids playground and surprisingly clean restroom facilities. The trail we used followed the Potomac and Broad Run and cuts through some wooded areas, circling us back to our car in about 30mins. The trail does go off and supposedly connects to other hiking trails along the Potomac River, but didn't have time to explore those areas. It would be a very long but interesting hike to follow all the way from Leesburg to Great Falls, hope to give that a try in the near future. Like most local trails, there are few paved sections but it's mostly gravel or dirt, so there's a good chance there might be some muddy areas. Don't wear your...
Read moreWe have been to Bles park twice now for U16 travel soccer games. The fields are grass. The parking is OK and there are hard structure latrines (so much better than porta johns). The down side to these fields is they were poorly marked the two times we played on them. Also, there are no team benches. Finally, there are no fences to help keep the balls from traveling into the woods or thick brush when kicked out of play. Overall, while this is likely a great place for younger age groups to play soccer, I would not want to be the home team for older age groups, unless the coach brings lots of game balls. Note, the surrounding area is residential, although there is a Chic--Fil-A not too far away that is clean and staffed by friendly and...
