A Truly Unforgettable Experience at Horton Vineyards

I can’t recommend Horton Vineyards enough—this was hands down the best winery experience I’ve ever had! From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed with warmth and enthusiasm. The tasting room is stunning, blending rustic charm with a cozy, inviting atmosphere. The staff’s passion for winemaking was evident in every pour as they guided us through an impressive selection of wines, each with its own unique story and flavor profile.

The wines themselves were simply outstanding! From their bold, velvety reds to crisp, refreshing whites, every sip showcased the craftsmanship and care that Horton Vineyards pours into their winemaking. The Viognier was a personal favorite—elegant, floral, and absolutely unforgettable.

But what truly set this experience apart was the incredible generosity of the owner. After we finished our visit and the winery had closed for the evening, the owner went above and beyond by offering to drive us home. It was an act of kindness that we’ll never forget and speaks volumes about the heart and soul behind Horton Vineyards.

Horton Vineyards is more than just a winery—it’s a place where hospitality, passion, and community come together to create unforgettable memories. I can’t wait to return and make many...

On 9/17 we road over an hour and fifteen minutes to Horton on our winery tour to celebrate my daughter’s birthday. When we entered the parking lot, which was empty, we wondered if there was a private event or if they were closed. They were open. No one greeted us so I asked the young man behind the counter what did we need to do for a tasting. He rudely said I’ll be with you once I’m done with this pour. In the meantime a woman comes out to help us who was very snarky. When we went over to get out pour I acknowledged to the young man how things has changed. He was exceptionally RUDE!!! Why have a job dealing with people if you can’t at least be cordial, respectful and just a decent person. I love the wine there but I will NEVER spend another cent on the wine from Horton. Was it us a group or African American females that made it okay for you all to treat us all poorly? When we got back in the limo the other ladies commented on their rude behavior. Our limo driver said a woman came out and told her where to park like she was holding up parking spaces. There was literally NO ONE there and now I know why. If you want to continue to like Horton do not visit in person because their attitude and lack of customer service will make you DISLIKE them and their winery. The worst...

Our new favorite winery! Their wine maker is incredibly talented and we appreciated the balance and complexity of the flavors. Tons of award winning wines (if you like Barboursville's Octagon you need to try Horton's Dio!). They also grow some lesser known varietals that are not common enough to have their own category in the Governor's Cup and therefore not medaled despite being spectacular wines.

We focused on the reds but we tried a white, a sparkling and a port wine which were all really good too. (They also do fruit wines if that is your thing.)

The wine is served in little plastic cups on a paper plate so that they can label what you choose to add to your tasting. But you get a real glass to pour into and drink from, as well as a carafe of water to rinse and clear your palate. Really liked the set up and I am not sure why others complain. Loved that the volumes weren't huge because we could try more.

Local cheeses, nuts, and crackers as well as chips and salsa for sale. Covered picnic tables outside and an indoor upstairs seating area which we did not visit because we wanted to be close to the experts and the wines. Dogs were welcomed.

We joined the wine club and will...

Gorgeous location, with nice outdoor seating, and tons of options to try. Neat location and found out that they were the first to introduce the viognier grape into the east coast which is neat, since it’s now the states’s grape. Inside is a little outdated with a strange kitchen staring at you, but you can ignore that by drinking a bunch of wines. Most are average but had a good experience with Dr real of them. The best was the lady working who allowed me to taste a few other wines since she was paying attention to the things I was saying about what I liked, which is always a sign of an experienced and generous provider. She even got me to admit that their 6-yr aged port was incredible good, so I bought that with a couple of other bottles.

Plenty of space, unique building, friendly service. That’s where the positives end. Notice I didn’t say anything about the wine? That’s intentional. With wines literally named “blueberry” and “cranberry” , the taste is about as complex as their names. If you want to drink alcoholic fruit juice, come here. If you want to drink wine, keep driving to barboursville, Keswick, or Reynard Florence. Guess one positive is that several wines cost under $20 a bottle which is hard to find in the local wine scene. But if you’re buying local wine based on price point you should just stay home and pick up a box of yellowtail.
