Absolutely worse experience at the salamonie I have ever had.!!!!! First thing was the nails and screws around the firepit/grill. The pnats were ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE.!!! When the DNR named Parker stops to look at the screws and chase 2 racoons off our site he gets in trouble by another DNR named Tony..!!! Then the next day we leave our site to go to the beach everything on our site was perfect to coming back to my brand new tent being broke which I mean the poles were snapped... And my sister in laws tent being ram sacked and soda all over the bottom of the tent. Called and made a report nothing can be done about it... RULES are not being followed.. a camper that was a couple sites from us was allowing their kid to shot a pump up pellet gun at wildlife and their siblings. Then there were people at the beach with there dogs off the leash swimming next to me and my family. Then there was other people there at the beach smoking a cigarette inside the water with me and my family next to them and flips the cigarette butt in the water next to children. 2am Monday morning had to call main gate to let them know there was only a quarter roll of toilet paper left in both bathrooms by the playground in...

I love taking my family to Salamonie Lake. There are numerous activities available there including camping, hiking, fishing, swimming, and horseback riding. Below is an excerpt from Wikipedia.

The earthen and rockfill dam was constructed in 1966 by the United States Army Corps of Engineers, with a height of 133 feet and 6100 feet long at its crest. It impounds the Salamonie River for flood control and storm water managed, is owned by the Corps of Engineers, and is operated by the Corps and the Indiana Department of Natural Resources.

The reservoir it creates, Salamonie Lake, has a normal water surface of 4.5 miles and a maximum capacity of 263,600 acre-feet; the total project encompasses 12,000 acres of land and water.Recreation includes boating, swimming and fishing for white crappie, channel catfish, white bass, and walleye. The state also operates the adjacent Salamonie River State Forest, Mt. Hope State Recreation Area, Dora New Holland State Recreation Area, Lost Bridge State Recreation Area, and Mt. Etna State...

On the way back home to the Indianapolis area from a state park even further north, I primarily stopped here to check out the mountain biking trails I had read about. I wasn't sure exactly what to expect, but didn't have the highest expectations compared to my normal riding locations of Town Run Trail Park or Brown County State Park. However, I was very pleasantly surprised with the Kintionki trail. It's not the longest at around only 4 miles, but it had plenty of features for intermediate and advanced riders alike, which some fun berms, steep down and ups, log ramps, and overall just great use the limited topography that they had to work with. While here, I also noticed they had a disc golf course, so I made sure to check that out as well since I had brought my disc set with me. It's only a 9 hole course with gravel tees and relatively short holes, but it was a fun additional activity to do if already there (I wouldn't make the drive if my only goal was looking for a disc...

The lake itself raises and lowers depending on the season, up stream will take you into the Salamonie River that had alot of history. I was around when it was in its prime but it is still nice now. Some small ponds hold Bluegills and bass. Frogs and turtle can be found also. Mushroom seasons bring in alot of visitors so be prepared for company.... on the downside there are a group of people who trash the place and totally disregard DNR rules and regulations. Attempts have been made but language barriers are present. I personally have saw and reported violations to no avail......yet. some basic education at thier end is needed.

I've been wanting to go here for years my sons and their friends rent a pontoon for the day and we go out on the lake the reservoir actually you can see the dam you can swim in a couple of coves and you can drive the Pontoon past a couple of bridges it's really cool you can swim off your own pontoon if you can get yourself up out of the water onto the Pontoon after you get in the water but I had a great time and I'm going to do it every year from now on
