Go Ape Zipline and Adventure Park — Attraction in Wake Forest

Today we went to Go Ape zipline park in Raleigh expecting to have an amazing time with our girls on one of my daughters birthday.

My 6 year old was so nervous to go on the zip line and do the courses, but I talked her into being brave. I was so proud of her, she started to tackle the obstacle courses without fear.

We all had to go one at a time over the bridges which were around 20 feet high. I went first, my daughter was behind me, her dad was behind her. We didn’t want her to feel alone, so we made sure each parent was in front and behind.

She was crossing one of the more difficult bridges and was already nervous, but crushing it. She was looking right into my eyes with a huge smile.

Suddenly we all hear a crack and A TREE FELL OVER ONTO THE BRIDGE SHE WAS ON. It happened so fast. A tree fell on the bridge a couple feet away from my daughter. The bridge started to violently shake as I was attempting to run over to her. If it would have hit her it could have KILLED HER. I almost saw my child leave this world after I talked her into being brave. She’s traumatized, she was crying and saying she could have died and left everyone.

I am beyond an emotion I can express in words. I’m already a paranoid mom and this has just destroyed me. She could have broken her neck, the tree could have taken the bridge and lines down, she could have been taken from me.

The workers said they just had an inspector come out to check the trees. This tree was apparently old and barely hanging on. I guess it wasn’t inspected well, was it.

I don’t blame the instructors, they had no way of predicting that would happen. I remember looking down as I heard the crack and saw one of the guides try and brace himself against it. They were very shaken up over this also, so I hold no ill feelings towards them.

GET A BETTER...

We took our 6-year old niece two weeks ago to the Junior course, and she had a fantastic time! Every single member of the staff was incredibly friendly and energetic, and truly took the time to ensure the entire party's safety and understanding of the rules (in the perfect way) before sending us out. The Junior course was really entertaining (and included some great challenges) for all of us. It's difficult to make a course that fits families of all heights, they nailed it. Our niece is tall for her age but still had to reach (safely) for things. It was a little less comfortable for the 6' + members of our group, but they still had fun.

I regret not catching his name, but extra kudos to the gentleman manning the top of the Zipline. Our niece found that difficult ground between fear and excitement. He deftly rounded other kids waiting to the parallel Zipline, all while assuring her (in a kid-friendly way) that she didn't have to go down, but she could give it a shot. With no fewer than three strategies (and all the patience in the world) she finally went for it. She enjoyed it so much that was all she wanted to do for the rest of our allotted time on the course.

Final words: the staff is fantastic. The Junior course (even for adults) is a ton of fun. The location is convenient and the course is well-shaded, so even in the heat of summer it will still be enjoyable.
