The Historic Village at Allaire State Park is one of our favorite places to visit as a family. On the weekends we catch the black smiths creating in the shop (who don’t mind my kids asking a million questions while they work), get treats for the kids in the bakery, and peek in the general store. The volunteers in historic costumes are full of information - we especially like it on days when we can catch the woodworker making toys & letting the kids guess how they were used. It’s fun to see what buildings are open on a given weekend & what demonstrations are being held. When we’re lucky, we catch glimpses of brides & grooms leaving the chapel - always a fun bonus. The $5 entry fee per person feels like a good value. My only criticism is the bathrooms by the village parking lot seem to have a drainage issue & are often muddy - but I recently discovered the bathrooms in the visitors center, which are cleaner & more comfortable overall. There’s a large & lovely picnic grove by the village parking lot. And another bonus - the village shares a parking lot with Pinecreek Railroad/the NJ Museum of Transportation, a working railroad that makes 2 short loops in the park just next to the village. The railroad is separate from the village but both are in the grounds of Allaire State Park and their close proximity makes the train a nice addition to a day at the village. I can’t emphasize enough how much we...
Read moreWe just went to a wedding here this weekend and we have never been so offended. First the guy who cleans up in the chapel started sweeping IN THE MIDDLE of the wedding party walking down the aisle. Then he has the audacity to yell at the brides family members during pictures. He told them to, “Every one SHUT UP AND LISTEN” because he had to clean for another wedding and hour and half after ours when we booked the place for a specific time and tried to kick us out 30 minutes before our time was up. He was yelling at people in their 60s and 70s as well as little children. He told us to hurry up and stop talking so that we can finish up and leave.Very disrespectful and border line racist. He waited till the grooms family left and we felt targeted. If I had my phone with me I would’ve recorded the whole ordeal to let everyone know what kind of person he was.
This man should not work there if he is going to be yelling and telling people he doesn’t even know to shut up and leave. If he can’t handle his JOB then he should find something else to do because clearly he can’t talk to people like human beings.
What was suppose to be a heart felt event turned into something unimaginable because this person was selfish...
Read moreI visited the village at Allaire State Park at Christmas and was beyond disappointed! First of all, on Facebook, they said dogs were allowed for the Christmas exhibit at the village. When we arrive, we are told pets are not allowed in the buildings only on the grounds. Which is not what the person from Allaire stated on Facebook. Thank goodness I had reciprocal membership from another museum so we were able to get in for free instead of the $10 fee. TOTALLY NOT WORTH IT! For a Christmas Exhibit, I’ve seen smaller places/museums decorated nicer than this place. I was told how gorgeous this place is at the holidays and I’m not sure why people think this place is so nice! Houses on the street are decorated more than this exhibit. Seriously don’t waste your money or time to see the Christmas at the Village. Just not worth it! The park seems nice in warmer weather but this village isn’t all that! The best part was able to get the Gurlz...
