Rocky point had been in a amusement park dating back to the 1840s through the 1990s. There are some pictures of the old days best to check online to see the amazing history.
Rocky point is in fact a Rocky outcropping with a “Sandy “beach in one area in particular on the west side of the park. It is not a beautiful sandy beach but a rough sand, a relaxing place with a paved winding walking and biking trail that parallels the water For quite a distance.

Read moreMost visitors probably won't know that this entire site and beyond, was formerly the Rocky Point Amusement Park. Included in the attraction was: A Large Shore Dining and Dance Hall [serving the famous Rhode Island Style Red Clam Chowder [GREAT! while listening to a Big Band or later, a good local Rock N Roll Band], A large gaming midway, a huge Ferris Wheel [with a view second to none], a small gauge Steam Locomotive [which would take you around the park and into the woods], a colorful Gondola ride to view the entire park and shining sparkling bays. Oh and did I mention, an Olympic Size deep Salt Water Swimming and Diving Pool complete with a High-Dive multi-level tower platform. It took it's supply water directly from Greenwich Bay! This place was a paradise for families, stray teens, young lovers, and just the whole town. It was really something for Warwick to be proud of! And as a long time resident of Warwick, it was a very sad day indeed, when town council decided it wasn't important enough for the town to continue to operate. In my view a ridiculous conclusion, as I could see it making money and shining today. It's nice that it's a walking park, but as an amusement park it entertained many more thousands, while introducing them to the Beauty of the Bays at the same time! It's demise symbolizes America's fear to lead, to challenge, to let go every now and then and have a good time! We've replaced that attitude with insurance companies dictating policy and style. Shame! Just one native's...
Read moreThe land that sits along the Western Side of Narragansett Bay called Rocky Point State Park is the hallowed ground of the former Rocky Point Amusement Park which dates to the middle to late 1800’s. I have so many memories as I grew throughout the years of Rock Point starting as a young boy ,I was to short to ride any rides even the kiddie ones, then onto my teenage years working at the park within the gaming department, many many big celebrities and many musical performances. The late great Babe Ruth played a baseball game there in the 40’s,. If you enter the old exit which is now the vehicle entrance and exit & follow it probably 300 before you reach the shoreline, you’ll see the outline of the diamond. Theres actually a sign commemorating the spot for the Babe. The Bay Queen used to pull up to the pier. All that is gone and its sad. The new pier is immaculate & built rite. I wish some passenger ferry would offer bay cruises again . The park looks gorgeous now but if I had a choice I’d want the amusement park back along with the Salt water filled swimming pool . Rhode Island the state as a whole is sad these days, the corruption took away everything. Just 30 years ago we had this park, warwick musical theatre, McCoy Stadium were very popular always busy, now just McCoy is left but just a year from now it will be gone too..Kids these days have nothing to leave the home...
