Cassandra Railroad Overlook — Attraction in Washington Township

A great little attraction tucked out of the way and hidden in a tiny little town. It's a cool place to spend the afternoon and to have a picnic in the summer, but I even come here in the winter (thought I'd super cold to do). The scenery is spectacular and the trains run right under you when you stand on the overlook. You can see very far in either direction and film the trains coming forever. Sometimes multiple trains pass under your feet at the same time. You can feel the wind. The sound is breathtaking. Even the smell is something new to behold. There is only a little parking and only a few benches, but I've never seen this place too crowded. I've met some train enthusiasts here who taught me things about the trains. They assure me you can get schedules to tell you when certain trains are coming, but I've always just dropped in and never been disappointed by a lack of traffic...

So happy I stopped by. When driving into the parking lot it makes you think you are driving into someones drive way. I got there on an early fall morning. There are benches to sit and watch. A folding chair would be practical here. The bridge would be tough to view the trains for a child possibly due to the design of the railing. There are however unobstructed views from either side in both directions. The east allows a nice straight shot so you can see the trains coming. From the west there is a turn, but you should be able to hear them before you see them. No bathrooms located here. So mind your fluid intake. This will be a great place to shoot in the middle of fall due to all of the trees along the track....
