Cassandra Railroad Overlook Motel — Hotel in Cassandra

This is a privately owned, non-chain motel that is located in one of the best railfanning locations in Pennsylvania. It is far less expensive, about half the price of other rail-oriented lodging in the horseshoe curve/Altoona area. The motel is quite close to the Cassandra Overlook, a small park with a bridge spanning the tracks that is open to pedestrian traffic, but closed to vehicle traffic. If you're looking for mints on your pillow, go elsewhere. If you're looking for a motel room that's cheap and close to all the popular places to watch trains on the mountain crossing of the railroad, this is a great place.
