This fascinating National Historic Site sits along the beautiful Columbia River in North Bonneville, and is managed by the United States Army Corps of Engineers. It was listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 1987. You will find hiking trails here that tell a story as you travel the Fort Cascades Loop, as well as beautiful views of the Bonneville Dam, which are surrounded by mountains on all sides. This area is rich in history; from Native Americans, explorers, soldiers, settlers, railroad workers and fishermen. I highly suggest checking out the website before you go. Please be respectful and leave everything as you find it so that those after you can have an enjoyable experience. Also, be aware that there is poison oak in this area. If you stay on the trail, you may see some, but you won't brush against it. 👍🏼

Great loop to walk the dog or take an easy stroll in nature with amazing views of the Gorge. This site is connected to the trail system that takes you to the Strawberry Loop on Hamilton Island. We enjoyed the easy, dog-friendly hike and taking a quick break on the bench to soak up the views. They have a parking lot that accommodate at least a dozen of vehicle. There is a short part of the trail that goes along the water, starting where the bench is.

Visited Tuesday 3/9/21. Saw no one else in this area. All historic artifacts are well marked with wooden posts about waist high. This is a great place for young children, but not wheel chair accessible as it is not paved. Worth a visit. Closest TH would be Fort Cascades Trailhead. Beautiful forrest. This is a 1.5 mile loop trail.

This is a great place to get out and walk around. There is a lot of history that used to be here. There are maps at the beginning and markers along the trail that point out where things used to be. Unfortunately none of it is physically there today. It's still fun to walk around and try to envision what the fort and town must have looked like. Awesome opportunity to get some good pictures of Bonneville...
