The Lyons Ferry Bridge used to cross the Columbia at Vantage. When the Wanapum Dam was put in, the Columbia River raised so high that this relatively small bridge could no longer be used to get across the Columbia. So, it was put into storage for a few decades. Meanwhile, there had been, for over a hundred years, a privately-operated ferry crossing the Snake River near where the Lyons Ferry Bridge is now. It's capacity was extremely limited and it was decided to replace the ferry with the old bridge that had been at Vantage. It was taken out of storage and reinstalled where the ferry had run.

I remember crossing this bridge in the 1950s. It was located on the Columbia at Vantage. This was before Wanapum Damn was built and the town of Vantage was located down in the existing lake. The town was moved to where it is located now. The bridge was floated to Lyons Ferry after completing the damn. There was a ferry to take you across before the bridge...
