I’m giving this 5 stars because it is my son’s favorite place to go during the summer. It’s a small, simple state park that offers picnic tables and grills on both sides of the small beach and swimming area, which has made it easy to keep an eye on the kiddos when it’s time to prepare food. The bathrooms are right there as well, easily accessible, and clean. There is no lifeguard on duty which makes the swimming and playing experience much better IMO. Whether it’s tossing a ball around, diving for fish, fresh water mussels, crayfish, or items that people have lost in the water, there’s no fun police to squash whatever it is you enjoy. Even when the park is full, we’ve never had an issue with finding our own space and have only had good experiences with other people doing their own thing. Paddle boarding, kayaking/canoeing, swimming across the lake, fishing, or hiking there’s something for everyone who enjoys the outdoors. Lastly, the tower trail is a relatively short 15 minute hike to the top with 360° views from the top of the tower. Sunsets over the lake are especially nice. The only downside is the geese and the dirty little minefields you may encounter. If you’re nervous about them acting aggressive when you walk by them or they get to close, a word of advice, don’t look directly at them and they won’t feel threatened. Please don’t intentionally feed them it only makes them act more...

I took my granddaughter to Mount Tom Beach yesterday. 6/13 /24. I've noticed in past years how it's really been going downhill, but this was the worst. The water was filthy. There's some kind of Blue and pink iridescent oil in it. There was not a frog to be found.( I can't blame them) And the beach area itself is a minefield of goose poop. I can understand there being some around because there are a lot of geese, but this was absurd. There was not a place to walk without stepping in it and the flies that it attracted were absolutely disgusting. We stayed for a little while and just couldn't do it anymore. There was no one there at the gate when we came in. Obviously no one has maintained the grounds. It was just a really upsetting experience, because when I used to take my kids there 25 years ago, it was a beautiful place. I guess I mistakenly thought that some of our tax dollars went to maintaining our...

This is a very nice small State Park. I go on it hiking often since I live in the area. It is definitely not a very steep hike, and I believe that most children would be able to do it, but however it is not the easiest of hikes either. It's definitely harder than steep Rock hike, and you will be hiking some places with large boulders where you might have to get on all fours for a second to get safe footing. It not hard, but its not like a simple walk in the park. I think the hike going to the top can be done at a leisurely pace within 45 min. The lookout is amazing, and the tower is open and you can climb on top to see long lookout points. I have taking many people to it, and older people and those who do not hike were able to do it, Maybe a little break in the middle for those who never hike. There is also a small beach and i think you can swim in a small...

A great spot for a light to medium hiking. Smallish parking lot and mostly narrow ungroomed trails. We, and a few others, took a wrong direction but it was fairly easy to realize our mistake and turn around back to the right trail (might not be an issue without the leaves on the ground). The woods are lovely themselves, but definitely go for the small stone tower at the top. It's open and there are stairs to the top (watch your head!). We weren't expecting we would be able to go inside, so that was a nice surprise! 😊 We were following a trail in a Connecticut hiking book, but there were clearly more trail options. We will visit again to check out the other trails.

The perfect place to spend a summer day. The hike to the lookout tower waa moderately challenging for my group of elementary school aged hikers. The view at the top was gorgeous and we didn't see anyone else on the trail, an added bonus. After a quick snack we hopped in the car and drove two minutes to a clean and well maintained beach. There was no lifeguard on duty but the swimming area was small enough so I could keep tabs on my group quite easily. The bathrooms were clean and in good repair. I will definitely be returning.
