Terrible customer service from beginning until the end. Camped here on 2 sites over 2 nights but I only had 1 RV--that was hooked up and no tow vehicle (important later). I couldn't book 2 different sites in the same transaction so was charged $8 per site online booking charge. Then I had to pay $10 to change one of the site #s (apparently b/c I had clicked on the adjacent site a few mins earlier it was showing as not available so I booked a different site worried that if I didn't book ASAP I would not get 2 sites together). After my transaction was completed, I happened to check it again within about 20 mins and the original site I wanted was now available, they would not make the change out of courtesy so I just paid the fee.
The site allowed up to 6 campers, they only allow 2 vehicles to be parked on a site (not including the RV) so we had to continually shuttle the other campers as they showed up--AND they had to pay $16 state park pass fee (times 4 cars b/c the employee said I should come pick my visitors up if we didn't want to pay for a pass--I asked if there was a day pass or visitor pass since the "real one" was on my RV and it was hooked up and leveled ???). $16 is ridiculously expensive as they were only day "visitors".
However, my biggest complaint was at the end. Our checkout day was raining and since we just live a few miles away, we decided to come back when the weather was better to dump. Came back 2 days later, when it finally stopped raining, and was told we would be CHARGED again to dump. I have never had this issue before and was told it is a new rule--which is not listed on the registration/usage rules I had to sign.
As I said, I have a state park pass which is supposed to allow me to use the facilities on top of the $100 I had already paid to camp less than 48 hrs before--and I still had my camping slip to prove it. Every year I buy the pass on every vehicle and try to use the state parks for camping rather than commercial sites but that stops today--if I am paying $100+ I might as well get full...
Read moreOne of the best state parks in Michigan for RV camping. Spots are not as right on top of each other as other parks and some have forest barriers between them. Firewood is available for purchase at check in station. No water hookups but there is a dump station where you can fill your RV at the check in site as well as several water spigots around each loop to fill jugs to take back to your site. Campgrounds' electricity was installed around 1970 with no 50 amp available but does have 30 amp. One of the widest beaches not on a great lake and the park next to the beach has plenty of picnic tables and charcoal grills to use. Miles of biking and equestrian trails. According to a park employee, pedestrians are allowed on these trails as well which is good since the only pedestrian only trail goes from the RV Campground to the beach with no loop. Equestrian trail connects to Indian Springs Metro Park in the Northwest. Teggerdine Rd has an Equestrian staging area which I've used to park and walk the trail. There is also a boat launch on Williams lake rd sharing the beach entrance and a shooting range on Gale rd I've never used. Camping entrance is on Teggerdine rd. Hunting is allowed in certain portions of the park during hunting seasons. Fishing docks are available on either side of the beach. There are also 5 cabins available with heating and cooling but do not allow pets like most of the rest of the park except for the beach sand. There is a RC miniature aircraft field on the north end off of White Lake rd. The only thing I wish they had was some kind of food or convenience store. Nearest gas station is at Teggerdine rd and M-59 which is about 3 miles from the Campground but once you're there there are plenty of stores and restaurants. Overall a great place to stay for a weekend or longer(Michigan law only allows up to 15...
Read moreTerrible! Our campsite was over run with racoon's. By over run I mean 9 at one point! There is a nest, natural habitat right there. We were located right at the playground and the bathrooms west loop. Also no hot water the duration period and shower rooms locked. Playground consists of an old swing set, ya that's it. However there is a big open field right there with a tree smack dab in the middle with a hornet's nest the size of a watermelon. Under the tree is where the park does the children's activities... while my husband was stung in the eye trying to get the nest down and away from the children. DNR stopped him they were informed of the nest and the raccoon problem they laughed and said quote "That's camping". The rowdy people next door and across from us or large party had a game of beer bottle basketball until 4am in which DNR also couldn't be bothered with. The only concern DNR had in their every 40min patrol was if you had more then 2 cars parked at your site. To top it off we had 3 cars so we asked where to park the 3rd car legally they informed us to park the 3rd car at the organizational camp parking lot which we did. Only to find out that when we moved the car there they gave us a ticket for it. When we went to them and talked to them about it they said "go to Clarktson and take it up with them have a nice day". The campground isn't even nice, outdated and not kept up. Skip the campground and go to the beach the only thing worthwhile was the beach....
