I’ve camped all over the country and all over Michigan and without a doubt, the most hostile, standoffish park worker I’ve ever encountered greeted me at the visitor check in. Now I’m a smiley, friendly guy when I interact with people, but this fella had a “I wish you would go away” vibe from the first moment I arrived. He immediately rejected my basic inquiry to look at the sites before choosing one, saying I needed to purchase a pass before viewing because it’s “state law.” He then told me I would need to purchase passes for two days in order to camp overnight because one night involves two days. Again “state law.” Funny thing is, I had camped there the previous week with different people working at the office and everything was totally fine/normal. He lectured me in a highly condescending tone that those coworkers of his weren’t doing their jobs properly. But his tone was directed at ME as if I were the one who had screwed up on the job. I’ve NEVER in my life felt the urge to use expletives checking into a campsite but this man had me VERY close to doing so. I hope someone at Pontiac knows who I’m talking about and can address his reprehensible attitude (this was at about 6:45pm on 8/17/22). Believe me when I say I’ll never come back and I will spread the word to my many friends who camp in Michigan to stay away from this site. Meanest, least-personable park official I ever hope to encounter. When I told him I guess I’d camp elsewhere he ACTUALLY SAID… get this… “That’s good.” I hadn’t been rude in the slightest, just asked questions and stated that I had camped here the week earlier. Pretty disgraceful behavior for a representative of...
Read moreWhen we checked in, we were very upfront about the fact that we had 3 cars coming and asked where we should park the 3rd car. The guy at the front desk couldn't give us a solution and finally said "I don't know, park it at Walmart, or you can try parking on the site but you'll probably get a ticket." We wound up buying the site next to ours (even though our site fit 3 cars easily without blocking any part of the road) to be respectful of their rule. In the morning, when we had 3 cars back on the site to pack up our belongings, one of the grounds keepers came by and was extremely rude to us saying we had to move the cars right now and when we tried to explain the situation she interrupted us saying "you have to follow the rules." Ten minutes later, of course, the park rangers came by. They knew our situation from the very friendly park ranger the night before who we explained everything to and said we were fine. They said we were fine to keep packing and clear out (we were out within 10 minutes of that encounter). For someone to yell at us like that who was picking up trash, even after we told her the rangers spoke with us and cleared us, is unacceptable. The campground is pretty nice, so it's too bad their staff is so unhelpful and rude (rangers excluded). If they're going to enforce the two car rule so heavily, you've got to offer overnight parking close by....
