I have been to a few events at Studio Waveland and have enjoyed seeing all the beautiful artwork in the shows. I’ve run into old friends and made some new ones. The gallery talks offer art lovers an opportunity to meet the artists and learn more about their work. Combined with Food Truck Fridays, the gallery has created a monthly event that is festive and fun. Family-friendly, too. There’s a little something for everyone. Having such a gem as Studio Waveland brings a sense of community to a city that was devastated by Hurricane Katrina as well as creating a destination for travelers to enjoy. On a personal note, I commissioned Larkin Gaudet to make a sculpture in memory of my daughter, who died earlier this year. She spent a lot of time - months, actually - listening to my stories and getting to know me and my daughter before coming up with a design that is exactly what I was looking for.
