Odawa Casino Mackinaw — Attraction in Wawatam Township

Ok crazy night for me! Didn’t even know this place existed until I saw it just out and about driving around on vacation here… (🤔 not sure how I missed this when I looked up the area) anyway.. it is very small but very awesome and very clean with awesome friendly staff…Now with that, I was going to give it four stars (I like writing reviews) so I told myself I can afford to lose $300 maybe $400(Like I did in Vegas) I just have gambled enough to know if you figure you’re gonna lose, it won’t be as painful lol so lost $350 very quickly (I like playing a lot of lines on the machines)No biggie(I DJ a gentleman’s club back in North Carolina and I do all right) So it was time to go I lost, but I had a great time for the 1.5 Hrs here.. but I kept thinking about the one Benji I had left in my pocket 😆 So wth right! And I passed by a machine that had a little wheel spinning thing going on & put $100 in..10m later won all the $450 back & came out a head by $250! Wooooo Was down to $30 or so & not even sure what I hit but it was big man. It was a lot of bells and whistles. That got me to thinking,were they trying to make sure I come back again. By finishing off with a big win? Haha Anyway, with that win…5 stars! I think that was the first time I really ever came out ahead! When I went to Vegas, I hit $200 really quick on the first machine I played! But was there for five days, not going to stop with 5 days left! 😆 by the end,lost about $150. I was cool with that. Lol. But this was way cooler actually coming out ahead. If I’m ever in this area again, I will come play some more…If ever around this area? I actually delayed writing this review in order to give myself some time to think about what I want to say...rather than doing it while I am still frustrated and possibly giving the facility an unfair evaluation.

That said, I was not overly impressed with this casino...especially considering some of the local hype I had heard about it. The facility itself is very nice...it still has that "new car" feel to it particularly since smoking inside is apparently prohibited. A BIG plus in my book, it is one of the few casinos that has tables/chairs where one can relax and not be attached to a slot machine.

On the other side of things, food selection was limited and very pricey. My biggest concern...VERY poor payouts on the slots. I fully understand that we do not win on each visit, nor am I opposed to the casino making a profit...but in the 2 hours I was there no one seemed to be winning. My best win on a mid-point wager was $60 on a Buffalo 3x2x3 which could have been real nice...but not a single buffalo at the front end. Another machine gave me 7-8 near misses for free games...always 1 icon short.

I watched numerous patrons and not a single person hit above $100 on bonus/free games. Everyone with whom I spoke said this was typical game play...rarely a nice win. The gaming industry was hammered this year due to Covid, but it should not attempt to recoup all it's loses by hammering it's patrons in kind. New patron, I don't live in the area, but this place is clean, lively, and has wonderful staff.

Edit: I have come back to edit my review, as this is my second time visiting, and I am lowering from 5 stars to 2. This time was VERY unlike last time. I would like to preface this by saying: I am over the age of 21, I presented my ID twice when asked, as well as a third time when asked how old I was AGAIN by staff.

Even after being carded twice, I had employees glaring at me, and some even following me like I was doing something wrong. I am above the required age, and was carded multiple times, yet was treated like I wasn't supposed to be in the casino by security and other staff (with the exclusion of the cage, who were very friendly to me).

This is totally unacceptable, and I have never in my life felt more unwelcome in a casino than I felt tonight. Go somewhere else if you want to actually enjoy...
