This trailhead is easy to get to and has a free parking lot, if limited in spaces. There are signs everywhere alerting you cameras focus on the parking lot all around. There are three trails begining at this lot. One is fairly flat, heading east. Another heads south into some hills. The best lookout trail though is short but steep...so if you have asthma or are not in the greatest shape, it will be a challenge. None of these trails are mobility-challenged friendly, as they are hilly, pitted and narrow at times and loose gravel.
There is a lot of plants...especially sagebrush (a common plant family allergen) in the area. There are common yard snakes, insects, and a ton of birds. There is no shade or tree cover so I suggest avoiding this trail between 10ish in the morning and 6pm if you are sensitive to heat or sunburn.
The hills throw shadows and the temp drops quickly...
Read moreInteresting experience so far....pulled into the parking lot to realize there's an old man staring at me from his truck. I watch him, he doesn't look away. I ask him if he's okay, he ignored me. I stare back he continues to appear to watch me. He's in the drivers seat so clearly he can see. Idk guys as a solo female hiker that's weird and creepy. I'm hanging out for a bit because that's just weird man....
He just moved his truck to a different parking spot, that's even weirder. I very well may not hike here at all now and to others 'heads up.' There's no age limit on creepy people that have a surprising amount of threat, trust me.
Actually I'm probably just going to leave at this point because he just moved his car a second time after doing a lap of the parking lot. Keep your eyes out guys, weird people exist everywhere even in small...
Read moreI'll admit it. I'm out of shape. Still I have drive. I made it along with my 4 year old son and 7 year old daughter. The trail was a bit rugged but clearly a road. Large fissures are all along the way. In pictures I look like I'm dying but I was quite proud of myself. There were many people older than me doing a lot less sweating. If your kids don't mind, don't go. It's a bit treacherous near the top as of 04/20/17. Great views at the top, bring your camera. P.S. there are lots of exciting looking trails throughout the area. I plan to go back with the kids. Make a day of it. So nice. Bring a lunch. Water. Windbreaker. You could be both hot and cold on same trip. Something light. Finally shoes with traction. Going late? A head lamp or...
