If you head to the WTA entrance that google maps takes you to, there's an automatic gate now that opens at 7:30am so can't access the lot before then. Went Saturday April 29th and there were lots of Balsam Root & Lupine but the hillsides will REALLY be awash in color in another week. If you do the loop, watch the signs and take a map. We ended up on a spur route which was fine, got some good elevation and mileage out of it, but if you're not an avid hiker these were more like lesser used deer trails that were a bit unstable due to erosion. We used our maps to find routes back to main trail. You could easily add on more mileage than planned. We did about 13.5 miles/1,900 elev gain. Start in the am and get your climbing out of the way early on the hot days! Saw lots of dog walkers & joggers so this doesn't have to be some epic adventure if that's not your thing - plenty to see a mile or two in.
