This gem is part of the reason why Logan Pass’s parking lot has a permanent “full” sign. It is a cool hike with an expansive panoramic view of the lake. I love that it was a walk along the rounded edge facing inward. As you walk on, the lake shows itself piece by piece and then you are struck with a stunning view of the entire lake with a beautiful mountainous background. Although fairly late in the season, I still got to see beautiful wildflowers. Fields of purple and yellow flowers were blooming toward the first mile and a half of the trail. There was a mountain goat that traveled the trail toward me; I got off the trail to yield the right of way. I dipped my feet into the lake and was surprised at the fairly warm temperature for glacial water. The trail was very well maintained, and if you have a pair, I highly recommend hiking with your Teva or Chaco sandals so you can more easily enjoy the water. The crowd thinned out quite a bit toward the 1 1/2 mile mark if you are heading toward Hidden Lake. To get to the lake, you have to hike through a forested area, so I still recommend carrying bear spray in your hand. If you enjoy swimming in alpine lakes, bring your swimwear and enjoy in the summer months. Overall, I had such a wonderful experience. It made the four hour drive from Calgary all the more worth it because I got to enjoy this hike to...
Read moreOur first hike at Glacier NP, the Hidden Lake Trail, was an incredible introduction! Even with our 10-month-old, it was a truly beautiful and amazing experience. We even scored a rare stroke of luck, finding immediate parking at Logan Pass on the afternoon of July 4th – pure luck!
The panoramic views were absolutely stunning, leaving us breathless. And the abundant wildlife (wild goats, bighorn sheep, a buck, and squirrels) kept our little one entertained throughout.
Be ready for a 500-foot elevation gain. Only about 10-15 minutes of the trail is boardwalk; the rest is uphill. Roughly 50% of the hike was covered in slippery snow patches, which felt a bit scary at times. If you're carrying a baby or toddler, we highly recommend trekking poles or snow boots for better traction.
Despite the challenging snowy sections, the incredible views and wildlife encounters made every step worthwhile. This trail truly offers a quintessential Glacier National...
Read moreHidden Lake Trail in Glacier National Park is one of the most stunning and unforgettable hiking destinations. Finding parking near Logan Pass can be tough during peak seasons , but we got lucky with a spot on the sidewalk, about half a mile away. Make sure to bring plenty of water as the visitor center doesn't sell water bottles, but there's a tap for refills.
The trail is about 3 miles round trip from Logan Pass and has walking steps to make hiking comfortable. The scenery is truly breathtaking , with alpine meadows, wildflowers, wildlife, and towering mountains. The hidden lake lookout point is particularly impressive, with its clear water surrounded by massive glacier-covered mountains. During our hike, we saw mountain goats, bighorn sheep, and big squirrels.
To enjoy a more peaceful experience, it's best to arrive early, as trail can get crowded very quickly. Additionally, the visitor center offers souvenirs and other items...
