All buyers be aware of this place when dealing with Tim. A week or so ago I called Tim for 18 Emerald Green Arborvitaes at 7 to 8 ft. Tim tells me $185 for each. He says he has plenty. I asked about 6 to 7 ft trees and he tells me $125 each. I tell him that I need 18 at the 7 to 8 ft range. He says no problem. I write this down. I look at the web site and confirm the price.
Today I called Tim. I reintroduced myself. I asked if he still had 7 to 8 footers. He said yes of course. I get directions to his location and head that way. I rent a trailer and drive 1.4 hours to Big Johns. Again we discuss price and the $185 and $125 are mentioned. When I show up, the workers are all real nice people. I ask for these 7 to 8 ft trees and here is where the dishonesty begins.
There is no such thing at 7 to 8 ft trees. I am shown 6 to 7 ft. Arborvitaes.
So now I am looking at 6 to 7 ft trees which are more in the range of +6 ft and change which are being sold as 7's and not even reaching that 7 ft height. I called Tim to find out where the 7 and 8 footers are. His story and attitude changes to a take it or leave it attitude. Obviously Tim set me up. An employee tells me and my son that these trees are $125 each. Given the fact that i needed trees for a 60 foot wall project and desperate, I took these smaller trees. With these trees now packed on my trailer and all tied down with no help from the farm other than to spot these heavy trees at the foot of the trailer, Tim sends a TXT to one of his employees telling them to charge me $185 for these trees.
When I learn of this, I called Tim. And just like Pinocchio, he has a story to tell me. This time it is one about how trees are graded and these are the best and so on. Regardless, I asked him about the quote over the phone for 6 to 7 ft trees that I have written down at $125 with never a mention about grade. I mention one employee showed me the price list for 6 to 7 footers and no grading mentioned for $125 each. When Tim is challenged with these TWO pieces of info about pricing, he states that he has no idea where the employee got that list and that he has to make money. Well Tim let me share this thought with you and everyone who reads this post, the prices are on your web site! As for the thought of making money, your wrong again, this is called stealing and being deceitful and dishonest. Furthermore, employees are then put on the spot which is embarrassing towards the operations. Big John would not be proud of you.
At $185, I then tell the employees that they can have the tress and take them off the truck and trailer. As they gather and get ready to take the trees off, I give Tim one more call to see if he came to his senses. One last chance to see if there was any right in his wrong. He had nothing to say but provide for another Pinocchio story. So being stuck in the moment, I mentioned a price of $165 for they were needed and loaded on the trailer and ready to go, he agreed.
So what does this tell anyone about the practice of honesty? We will leave the question for another day for I would like to give Tim the chance to redeem himself and send me my money for each tree @ the $125 price as posted on the web, quoted to me by Tim, and shown to me by an employee on a list. The misunderstandings that currently exist would be corrected and would result in this post being canceled. Looking for $800 dollars Tim.
Big John would be ashamed of you if he knew of...
Read moreThis is our 4 year going to cut down our tree. We arrived at 9:30 (opens at 9:00). I can’t tell you how excited I was to go. Something fun and positive for me and my kids to safely do amidst this pandemic. When we pulled in we were the second care there. A young man came up to us and said are you here for a tree? Of course we said yes, it was not the feeling I have felt in the past. I felt like we shouldn’t be there. We went in the building to get the saw, no lights on, but, a lady was there to ring us up. We paid for the tree and headed out back. Horrible, horrible selection. This year they let people tag trees, I did get a not so great tree, but a tree. Went into pay for it. Asked if they had the cranberry wine I normally get. Quick response was “sold out, you should of called”. I chose a different flavor. The normally friendly team outside doesn’t exist. The man never asked to shake the tree, barely wrapped it: it wasn’t until we were leaving did I hear the Xmas music go on. I have never written a review, this is my first for any business. The reason I am writing this review. In a time when so much disappointment is alive and well. Small efforts on the part of the business could of went a long way to bring some normalcy back. I traveled over an hour each way for the past 4 years to come here to support small business. I won’t be back next year. Tree farm in Mendon, Ma, still doing it right to bring happiness back...
Read moreUpdate: The owner or manager came out and delivered the missing trees to our house. Unfortunate that the situation played out as it did in order to reach resolution.
We recently ordered over 30 Green Giant and 4 Blue Spruce trees. Our house is new construction so we arranged a landscaping company to pick up the trees from Big John's. We placed our order weeks in advance due to the size of the order and we of course paid in full. We followed up with a phone call and in-person visit to explain that the landscaping company would be picking up and ensure all went smoothly. When they arrived, all trees were not ready for pickup. Big John's response conveyed that this was not a big deal and the trees would be ready sometime the following week (unspecific on the timing). When we went again in person to discuss and sort out the details, the owner/manager was extremely rude and dismissive as if it were our fault the order was not ready. Why are we not receiving the product we already paid for and clearly communicated the timeline we needed to receive? We should not have had to follow up so thoroughly and yet the process still did not go smoothly. Extremely disappointed as Big John's is very close to us and we were excited to try them out and give business to a small,...
