Fabulous! Talk about a hidden gem! If you like old cars & and history, this is the stop for you! Today, I stopped by to view these cars and got the whole tour. You pay $15 dollars for a 45-minute tour. When I was there, I was the only person present, so I had the opportunity to go through and get the personalized tour. The gentleman who led me through was extremely knowledgeable and patient while I asked my questions.
I learned that it's more than juat a museum. You can also get your car restored there. They have a special spot to paint it, and the special controlled garage allows paint to dry in 60 minutes instead of 8 hours.
I also learned they refurbish the appolostry. In another section of the garage, it is not affected by the paints. It is all very safe and they are very professional with all the cars as you will see in their collection.
Finally, there are certain cars on display that are for sale, and after going through the tour, you could talk to the salesman.
The artist thay drew all the murals was fantastic. You could look one angle looked like people were driving one way and then as you walked to the other side of the room your eyes played tricks on you and the road seemed to go the opposite direction! What a true optical illusion!
I actually took way more than 50 photos not sure it will allow me to post them all!
This is a fantastic collection you must...
Read moreIf you've never been to Okoboji Classic Cars I recommend it even if your not an automobile enthusiast. It is packed with antiques and collectibles not to mention the art work. It is the largest known mural painted by 1 single artist. Gabby and I have been there 3 times this time we didn't pay a lot of attention to the cars we found our selves more taken in by the attention to detail in the artwork. When you first enter the museum your walking down main street Spencer before the big fire that wiped out Spencer's main street. You look into the soda shop and there's people sitting at the soda bar, the Chevrolet dealership has cars on the show room floor the hardware store has painted pails full of bulk screws and nails the neon signs have been restored and put on the businesses. It's truly amazing and every employee we talked to had a great attitude and appreciation for what they get to...
Read moreThe car museum itself is spotless and well done. The $15 tour in order to gain entrance however is subpar. We were rushed through in 30 minutes and unable to fully enjoy the beautiful museum and its history of the cars.
Our guide only pointed out specific cars and was not knowledgeable of all. The guide talked more about the beautiful murals on the wall than the cars Once the tour was over we were asked to leave or join the next tour to view cars again.
Only being allowed 30 minutes was not enough to enjoy this beautiful museum. A suggestion would be to have a cheat list for the guides reference with specific information on all cars or to have a stand in front of each car listing details for guests to read. Having this information would be much more informative for guests, rather than to hear “I don’t know anything about that one.” And again 30 minutes was not...
