This was a nice quick stop off US-31 that I've wanted to check out for years now...every time I'm on my way up or down US-31 and I pass the sign for Ft Duffield, I've always wanted to stop but never did, until this week. I'm glad I made the steep hike up the trail to the top of the hill as the views of the Ohio River valley were amazing! I didn't realize the fort was that large and that it actually faces South - AWAY from the river! If you ever get 30-minutes and want to get some exercise and a history lesson all in one...check...

Really nice piece of history with markers describing each area. There is a supply of maps and info at the parking lot area as well as a picnic shelter. A lot of open space at the top for a blanket picnic. Several small log cabins you can enter and a clean outhouse at the top. Site overlooks the Ohio River into Indiana.
