This is a regular spot for a low impact hike with my family. Nothing too dangerous for kids of most ages, but we're definitely not talking strollers here. I mostly low-grade incline and few obstructions makes it a good place if kids tend to get ahead. Prior to social-distancing, I would say the paths have plenty of space for two-way traffic. Since social-distancing, we do find the best option to step off the trail to allow others to pass. For this purpose, we keep an eye out for the many spots with little or no vegetation, or even some flat rocks to step. There is not a steep drop-off anywhere on the trail where this would be too dangerous for someone who could climb steps. If traveling with a wheelchair, bring one with trailworthy tread, as it's packed dirt, rocks and a few areas with...

I'm so glad that there are people working to preserve some natural areas in the Tri-Cities. Candy Mt is like Badger Mt's little sister in terms of difficulty. It's a much easier, much more gentle and accessible climb. Badger Mt will always have my heart but Candy Mt is a great way to introduce your friends to the arid desert outdoors of the Tri-Cities without making them sweat too much. The road to the trailhead parking lot is currently being paved (August 2019). As I said before, the trail is a very gentle climb to the top and at the top there are some large basalt rock benches to relax on and enjoy the view and learn a little bit about the...

This is a good short day hike to get yourself in shape. A new gravel trail was just put in this year and is fairly level. There is a good parking lot with a porta-potty where you could park a horse trailer. I've seen horses walk the trail and even someone riding their bike to the top. The views from on top of Candy Mountain are wonderful. You can see the entire Tri-City area and volcanos in the Cascades near Portland, Seattle, and...

Candy is a great hike for all ages and levels of experience. It starts off easy and then gains some elevation but not a ton. At just 1.7 miles it's a short hike that provides great views from the top. On the way up the trail splits. It doesn't matter which one you take as the meet up again a short while later. The left fork is not as steep but offers no view. The right fork is a touch steeper but the views are great.
