I really did not want to give 1 star it’s really a rating of 0/10- I had my daughters sweet 16 birthday party over the weekend 11/9 about an hour 1/2 into the party a woman (long dark/grey hair) walks into our party room approaches me with very hostile energy (moving her hands in my face) saying that icing was on the dance floor and if it happens again she’s shutting the party down…mind you it was $530 to rent this room so saying you’re going to shut it down over icing being on the floor at a birthday party is just absurd. I explained it was my understanding that we had an hour to clean up after the party was over and that everything would be left the way I found it (my daughters best friend thought it would be funny to smash a cupcake in her face- that’s why there was icing on the dance floor) I tried explaining this to her but she immediately threatened to have the park police escort me out of the building during my daughters 16th birthday party. I walked to the lobby to try to explain to the park police what was going on and the woman who threatened to kick us out lied to the police about what she said to me (this is an employee of coonskin) All of this resulted in my daughter in tears and us packing everything up early and closing the party down. I felt like we were treated like criminal’s instead of a paying customer. I do not recommend this place to have a party - we actually had to clean before we set everything up. Stains on the carpet that looks like they’ve been there since 1998 rips and stains In the chairs Cobb webbs in the ceiling fans and she was worried about icing on the dance floor. I will attach pictures of the icing she’s referring to. I do not recommend this place to anyone very unprofessional behavior and no customer service...

Great place, especially this time of year, to shake the winter blues. It was cold today but sunny and hardly a cloud in the sky. Lots of outdoor activities to do ... hike, bike, golf, fish, picnic, plus playgrounds for the little ones and a skate park and soccer field for the older ones. The pond is a great place to introduce small children to waterfowl. You should avoid feeding bread, chips, crackers, cereal, or sweets to the ducks and geese. Corn, oats, frozen peas thawed, lettuce, just to name a few.

  • Note: Just a comment on the previous review from S. Ewing... He states that a hiker should not venture too far off the trails and cites wildlife ie. bears, bobcats, and mountain lions as the reason. Bears?, yes, but you are not likely to see one. Bobcats, maybe, but a very high probability of not seeing one (plus they would pose no danger to a human and therefore sighting one would be a rare treat). Mountain lions? You could spend your entire lifetime with the express purpose of getting even a glimpse of a mountain lion in Coonskin Park or anywhere in the entire state or region for that matter, and the likelihood of seeing one would be virtually zero. Actually there is no definitive proof that mountain lions...

We went here for a picnic dinner and to expend our little one's energy before a car trip. What an amazing place!!

Freshly cut grass on beautiful rolling hills. If I lived in the area, I'd definitely come here for a jog like I saw others doing.

The playground was clean and modern, well-maintained - a great play structure with rubber chips underneath. There are nice drinking fountains with steps for kids and a water spigot. Lots of nice pavilions.

One of the coolest things was watching airplanes fly right overtop Of us, landing and taking off from the base right next door. Really neat view!!

Beware of the flashing railroad sign on the way in - I slammed on my breaks but it's actually for some business or establishment. There is no looming...

A wonderful place to hike around. If you are looking for the exact location of the grotto/waterfall put these coordinates into google maps: 38°23'05.4"N 81°34'29.9"W. It's just off the Mary Knight or Oak trail. You can enter off Henry C. Shores Dr. and enter the road that states "Areas 6-20" (38.383639, -81.580449). You will see benches on the left and can park there (38°23'06.8"N 81°34'40.5"W). Walk on the dirt road which curves around the right but don't follow it all the way to the building. Once the you see the building at the same level as you, head towards the first set of coordinates towards the grotto and you'll see some stairs which give access. :-)
