If you like lake fishing for stocked trout, this highest elevation lake in the state of WV is for you .. They stock it weekly Jan - May, and 2 weeks in the Fall, when many large brooders are stocked .. Unfortunately, this relatively shallow lake doesn't support trout though summer .. There are some warm water fish stocked and there's a small wild population of bass, sunfish, and a few other warmwater fish .. There's a nice established Nat'l Forest campground very nearby, and plenty of parking at the lake, which sometimes will be crowded, especially on Spring weekends .. It's far from crowded in summer .. Most Winters, the lake is suitable for ice fishing as well .. Small boats may use trolling motors ONLY .. The lake is approx. 30 acres .. Personally, I'm a flyfishermen who fishes streams mostly .. But if you like bait fishing, & relaxing from the bank, a john boat or canoe, then this is a nice...
Read moreThe lake itself is beautiful and many people come here to fish. It has a restroom (no flush) and a trail circling the entire lake. The only problem is that the road to get in and out is made of gravel and there are potholes everywhere. We came from the direction of the spruce knob. Saw a sign of the lake and didn't expect the entire road to get to the lake, about 4-5 miles, were in such terrible condition. Also, you'd better download google map for off-line use, because there is no signal at all for navigation. Even with my off-line map, I still feel very unsure if I am on the main road. We kept running into big black cows on the road...

My friend and I had plans to go paddling here, but our inflatable kayak got a leak before we even got it in the water. 🙃 But there were tons of friendly people fishing with their kids along the side of the lake and they seemed very successful.
