The campground itself was really nice and I definitely recommend it. We reserved site 37 which is a walk in. The site was on the opposite side of the road compared to what the map said, which was confusing, but the walk in was really short and just far enough from the road to feel private (though I could see my neighbors tents on either side). The camp ground manager’s area was easy to find, but I never saw the manager. I took the firewood from the manager’s area and just left cash on the table (A few people seem to have done this). The firewood was super dry and burned great with a very nice smell actually. The bathrooms are just outhouse style, so have a plan at your camp to be able to wash your hands; and by the time we left in the morning it had run out of toilet paper, so bring back up. Also, if you are planning to camp around other people, please don’t be like our neighbors and Respect the camp ground rules for quiet hours (playing music and partying until 1:00am is RUDE). EDIT: bring a tough tarp for under your tent. The ground is compressed gravel and my tent now has holes on the bottom. The camp ground Does advice using tarps under your tent, but I didn’t see this advice on any of...
Read moreI really love places like this. Way out, no phone reception, no electricy, no nothing. Just mother nature! Stayed 2 nights in September 2020. Make sure you have all your supplies before going. There is absolutely nothing close by for anything. They do have wood at $7 a bundle and 20 for 3. I bought 2 and they were pretty damp, so scavenging the woods around my site was plentiful. Lots of fallen dry stuff. Toilets are the typical "hole in the ground" style, but kept relatively clean. Place is pretty quiet, except the occasional vehicle coming by and in my case the couple that were arguing at full volume for about a hour accoss the way. Not much trail hiking close except around the lake. Rated 4 stars because of the reservation confusion... we were told when we called about it that it was a first come first serve campground. When we got there a majority of the sites had plaques with upcoming reservations on them. So I'm not sure how you reserve these sites, but ive experienced this across the country. All in all it was great! I would love to come back and do a much more thorough and lengthy exploration of West Virginia. It has quickly moved up my favorite list as I have been to most states east...
Read moreFirst camping trip I’ve ever been on that someone else planned. This campground was awesome and the lady that was running it this weekend 7/11/2020 - 7/13/2020 I wish I would had got her name because she was amazing, When we got there I didn’t know how small our site #4 was and we had 6 people with us luckily for us #6 was open and not reserved and #3 was open due to someone leaving early, I paid for #6 and she let us move to #3 without a problem. When you go to reverse a spot make sure you look to see if it is a single or double site I didn’t know because apparently I didn’t read lol so I am very thankful for the park manager lady to help us out and to let my boyfriend and I have a great vacation!!
It’s very easy to get to go to Elkins turn right at the four way follow US 33 all the way till you basically hit Seneca Rocks but google maps took me the long way through the country which wasn’t a complaint expect we didn’t get to see Seneca Rocks till the 2nd day. very beautiful and we will be back next year this time to camp.
Spruce Knob and Seneca Rocks was a blast and we can’t wait to come back to do more of the activities...
