I took advantage of the warm February weather and had an afternoon adventure riding through Rancocas State Park! This 1200 acre space surrounds the area where the historic Rancocas Creek splits into its north and south branches. Established in 1965, this New Jersey State Park has over 13 miles of trails, access to the creek for canoeing, and a nature center. I parked at the Rancocas Rd entrance in Hainesport to ride the blue Creekside Trail and the orange Red Fox Trail. It took me about 50 minutes to complete a 4 mile loop. When I pulled up this friendly guy had just finished biking so I asked for some advice and he gave me a map. He suggested that I walk my bike up the steep hill to the right and start the blue trail from there. During my ride I experienced a variety of environments and terrain with plenty of great views. The highlight of my adventure was the frequent change in elevation. Some parts of the trail were so steep I decided to walk my bike up or down these hills, which you don’t find often in South Jersey! I will definitely go back to explore the other trails along with the abandoned cabin and eventually take a trip with my canoe. Rancocas State Park is a beautiful place to enjoy nature and get a challenging workout!...
Read moreI have been coming to this park for 12 years and conditions have deteriorated and I am not sure what happened. Visit 8.2.25 5pm-630pm.
I passed dozens of knotted, small bags of dog feces left on the trail and even on a post by the parking lot. I don't know why people think this is ok. (See photo)
Chick fila. Chip bags. A box from soft drinks. This park was not trashed like this during Covid when everyone was eating. (See photo)
A condom wrapper and used condom right on the parking lot. (See photo)
I found a trail cam wired to a tree on the white trail from the parking lot with an hole/animal trap / branches over it. (See photo)
The township spent thousands of dollars paving a road in here, placing a new sign at the trail head. All this but not one trashcan.
They also placed a very large sign obstructing visual exit from the park. If this was in my township I would have been cited. Try making a left turn out of the park.
Next I am sure this park will have a gate...
Read moreI remember back in the day all of this Park was an anything goes good time. Four Wheeling and dirt/dual sport riding. Before quads and the tear it up mentality that came with it 😠 Sure the four Wheeling trails mudded out but the actual road in and out of both sides of the park were always drivable. You could drive down to the creek and put your canoe in or fish no hassles. There were even a few houses back there surrounded by the park. Camp fires and swimming was also cool especially off the old dock. The State Police always came through keeping an eye out for trouble and if you were canoeing or biking they would tag your car to let you know they were around. Ha. Now it's cool for walking the trails Dawn to Dusk. Still a sweet patch of wild just off the road. Would give more stars but parking at the Decon Rd entrance is limited and have yet to hike it to check out trails. Will update review after a...
