Lake Chauncy Trailhead — Attraction in Westborough

The day i wrote this review, the photo caption indicated Lake Chauncy is a restaurant, today it says "Gym in Westborough". It's neither. It is a Great place. It has NO service and it has NO staff. It's a former State Mental Hospital with a large and beautiful plot of land behind the old hospital buildings. Some of those buildings are used as a prison. There are a few places where you can see razor-wire-topped chain linked fences, but the former hospital and prison are not visible from most of the open space. It's not just open space. Most of the people who come to walk and cross-counrty ski bring dogs, but it's not just a dog park.

There are a variety of walks (none of them are very difficult). From the trail-head to the opposite side of the lake is about 1.25 miles. There is a dog-beach (honestly: swimming for dogs only). Trails (really roads) are wide and pretty flat. Most of the trails are tree-lined and covered. Even the fair-skinned can leave the hat in the car. There is no potable water, but the lake is the (untreated) town water

It's in Westborough, so everyone smiles, and everyone is friendly. Most of the dogs run free, but there are posted requirements to use a leash. You clearly get the idea you are in Westborough, MA. and no place else east of the...

Good well maintained place. I met at least three photographers waiting for their moment. Seems to be a favorite for bird photography.

There were many benches facing towards the lake. Small but beautiful area.

I reached here as I was walking around the lake to to complete a loop. There is a parking here as well but I had parked at the boat ramp parking area. You need to know that if you are going towards the Chauncey beach area .. then to complete the loop you need to take the Lyman road. Not safe with kids.

Love this place !! I just discovered it this week & I've been back several times. So many trails !! Got "lost" in the woods for almost 2 hours.. absolutely beautiful scenery.

I've read a handful of comments about dogs not being on a leash .. I have yet to see that . 10/10...
