We were looking for a base to stay and kayak several lakes and ponds in the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont in early September (after high tourist season). Mountain Lake Cottages are located right on crystal clear Lake Willoughby and were exactly what we were looking for: two separate bedrooms and a very complete kitchen (with full size refrigerator) and direct access to launch our kayaks. Kris, the property manager was lovely, and provided the coffee maker of our choice, a microwave and offered assistance with anything else we needed. The interior of our Cottage was a lovely rustic log cabin with a stone fireplace, very clean, with very comfy beds, a nice covered porch to enjoy our morning coffee and glass of wine in the evening. Even the loons on the lake called loudly for us to the porch! Kayaks were available, but, we brought our own and were able to launch from the property, although the launch area is down a grassy hill and a little tricky to maneauver (a little work on the kayak launch area would be helpful for serious kayakers). There's a nice wood stair to a sandy swimming area (the weather was perfect for our swim - the water clear and clean). We kayaked two days on Lake Willoughby and several other days travelled to some of the numerous bodies of water in the area, returning to a cozy cottage after our excusions.||While we didn't find many negatives, the steep driveway down to the cottages was a blit intimidting at first. Our trip was solely for kayaking in the area, but we did explore the property a little - there's a tennis court/basketball court (they need some care) and a hiking trail. But, overall, this was a great place and my friend and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would...
Read moreI knew the area from previous visits, but found Mountain Lake Cottages in internet, very randomly, and I found their place lovely from the pictures, remarkable. ||My plan was to spend a weekend in the green state of Vermont, I wanted to show the surroundings of the lake to my parents who were visiting me from Spain, eat at the Busy Bee and show them the Bread&Puppet museum. But on Friday, when we where on our way from Canada, driving in car, we had some troubles at the border.||I felt deeply disappointed, we had to solve some issue with papers, so we had to delay our trip -maybe even cancel it. Here is where the surprise begin: Kris called me to follow up on the problem, every day, trying to support a find solutions, being super empathic and kind.||We finally solved the problem and came (two days later than expected). Kris had the cottage ready, super cozy, for us. I felt the problem was less problematic by having Kris support. ||I highly reccomend the experience : besides from the fact that you will be treated like a human, even like a queen, the area is just beautiful. We went right at the season of the hummingbirds, and Kris installed a drining water system for them in our cabin, so we could see them close. FIrst time in our lives!||Thanks Kris for this unforgettable experience!!||Very...
Read moreWhat a dream week at Mountain Lake Cottages. We had three cabins, six young people ages 12-16, and three generations. The lake is beautiful in all of its iterations - covered in morning fog, placid evenings, white capped on a windy day. And the sunsets! Stunning. We spent our days on the water - the teens basically lived there on paddle boards and kayaks. We heard and saw loons daily. We played games in front of the fire at night. Kris was wonderful and always available - helping with suggestions for hikes (Mt Pisgah views are worth the strenuous climb!), where to kayak, and bringing us a grill for cooking out. Everyone remarked on the hot water - we had an unseasonably cool week (in the 60’s end of July/early Aug), so getting into a steaming hot shower after a plunge in the lake felt divine. We did a lot of cooking and baking - the kitchens are so sweet and well stocked with pans, utensils, etc. This was our first time at Lake Willoughby and we wouldn’t dream of staying anywhere else - it was...
