Where to start.......I had no idea how many different things are made of glass! The collection is extraordinary. Human ingenuity at its finest. The museum is FREE, but I highly recommend leaving a donation, or buy a piece of glass from the museum gift shop to help support the cause and take a piece of art and history home. There is a free app you can download, and as you walk through learn more about what is in the cases. BRING SOME HEADPHONES. Information on the app is on the front desk as you walk in.
The staff was very friendly and helpful. While this is an American Glass Museum, there are a few more historical items from elsewhere. Ask the front desk where is the oldest piece they have on display. It is easy to miss, very surprising to see, and interesting to learn about.
A few tips:
Plan on parking on the street. There is a parking lot adjacent to the building, but it is for a local bank. Plenty of street parking. I think it is a 2 hour limit.
Again, bring those headphones. The App is wonderfully curated.
Take some of that beautiful glass home and support the museum.
I will definitely return. There was too much to see and absorb in...
Read moreAs lovers of glass, this visit was long overdue. The impressive collection is so gorgeous in person. There is a bit of every style of glass. I know I missed things because there is just so much to see. It's a self-guided tour so you can go at your own pace. I hear that some employees as volunteers offer tours or walk through and I'm assuming that would be really cool too. We met a lovely volunteer who took the time to recommend some specific lithograph documents based on our interests and home town. She also put together some other "what to see in town" brochures which was so kind and helpful. If you like glass, visit. It's free but you can make a donation. We decided to become members as the museums work is important to us. Honestly the membership levels are reasonable and you get a quarterly magazine and discounts if you are into research. We spent a couple hours there and it was...
Read moreA must-visit for glass aficionados. The glass doll house is a true relic and was surprised I had never heard/seen of it before visiting. There is also a free-access library where you can access hard to find literature on glass. I could spend days here. There is alot of detail that can be overlooked. If you look up you will see an array of glass hanging lamps and shades. I could go on for eternity. Self guided audio tour is also available. There is also an opportunity to purchase rare items in the gift shop. One day I dream of visiting the backroom. Admission is free but there is an option to donate. Be sure to sign the guest book so they can tally visitors and continue to operate. The young lady in charge was very friendly. Can’t wait to...
