My wife and I were in town at a local campground and decided to try them for dinner on our night of arrival into town. We ordered takeout, my wife got the brisket BBQ Nachos, and I got the Texas Brisket Sandwich. There were only 3-4 couples inside the restaurant eating at the time I went in to order. The service to make the 2 dishes for takeout seemed pretty long 20+ minutes considering they weren’t very busy. This wait would have been acceptable if the food was delicious to make up for it. We didn’t look at the food until we got back to the campground to eat. My wife’s Brisket BBQ Nachos were literally flooded in a pool of nacho cheese, almost like someone spilled the container of cheese into the takeout platter. Literally like 3 cups of nacho cheese. You could taste no other flavor, and the meat was totally ruined due to this. My brisket sandwich was okay, it was 2 slices of brisket between a bun, with a super small side of some vinaigrette dressing. It was pretty underwhelming also but was at least edible, which was not the case with the Brisket BBQ Nachos, which we had to throw out. We’re were disappointed, as we like to try new local hole in the wall places when we travel. Sorry to say, if ever in town again, we will not...

We stumbled upon this place between Asylum tours.
BBQ was on point. Melt in your mouth burnt ends, Fall apart tender brisket with deep smoke rings and fantastic pulled pork.
The slaw was juicy and delicious and the French fries (yeah, shut up!) were also excellent and a nice family friendly alternative to the two slices of wonder bread.
If I had to criticize something it would be the Mac and Cheese was unremarkable. I don't consider myself and expert in this category but the 12 and 17 year old were not impressed. LOL! Enough said.
The Service was phenomenal from helping is order the right combo for our family to setting us up with sauces to go for the leftovers and replacing my straw for my iced tea refill for the ride back to Buckhannon. Staff was extremely attentive and requesting real time feedback.
Only 3 stars for the atmosphere since it is downscale. Small storefront with a couple tables and counter service. Disposable utensils. The food is the star of this show, not the venue. It's indoors with A/C. A step up from many top notch BBQ joints.
Would return again and...
Read moreI swung by South Texas Barbecue Company on a recent trip to Weston, West Virginia, and it was a welcome break—conveniently just down the street from the Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum, perfect for recharging after some spooky sightseeing. As a fellow Texan who's missed that authentic pit-smoked flavor since moving east, I was thrilled to find this spot run by transplants who clearly know their way around a smoker.
I ordered the brisket sandwich, and it didn't disappoint: tender, well-smoked beef on a soft bun with a nice peppery bark—no need for extra sauce, and it felt like a little taste of home. The menu's got a fun Tex-Mex edge too, with tacos, sausage, and burnt ends that tempted me for round two.
The burgers on the board looked pretty solid as well—juicy and loaded; if we're back this way, I'll have to give one a shot, maybe with the Mexican street corn on the side. Meals run about $12-15, great value for the quality, and the staff was friendly and quick. If you're craving real Texas BBQ in the heart of Appalachia, this one's worth the stop. Solid 5 stars—feels like a hidden home...
