Fort Casey State park is beside Admiralty inlet which is a thoroughfare for wind. Don't get me wrong. This is a great place to camp and the surrounding fortifications are fun for all to enjoy, however, when it's windy there, as it was in end March of 2024, it was 2 days of strong, very strong winds and cold . You can't blame them for that, as they have no control over the weather. When the wind comes down the inlet from the ocean, it can be extremely strong. As far as the camping is concerned, I'm glad we were in a trailer. There is limited power at this campsite to approximately 3 sites, however, the bathrooms and showers are kept impeccably clean. Showers are free and run for approximately 2 and 1/2 minutes before you have to reset them, with a push of a button. The motion sensor lights in the shower turns off in about 30 to 45 seconds so you have to keep moving. Lol. Maybe a little bit of dancing while you're singing! Generators can be run from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Reservations are recommended, however there are drop-in sites. The Washington State ferry docks right beside this campsite and you wouldn't even know it was there. It's so quiet. This is called Keystone and they go over to Port Townsend. Access to this campsite is by going past the entrance to the ferry by about half a mile and you'll see the entrance to the fort and campsite on the left. It is a fairly steep hill in and out with a bit of a blind corner or two. Lots of deer here to see so go slow. Dogs must be kept on a leash as there is $100 fine, Should you explore the fortifications it's best to keep children and dogs in arms reach as there are sharp drop offs that are unnoticed around the fortifications. Straight down to concrete for 30 or more feet can be quite devastating. You can hop on the ferry and go over to Port Townsend for a leisurely day of shopping or bruising the shops. Lots of...
